What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Youth Ministries position at East Main Church?
East Main Presbyterian Church seeks a passionate and spiritually-grounded individual to serve as Director of Youth Ministries. This role is responsible for leading and nurturing the spiritual growth of middle and high school students through Christ-centered programming, discipleship, and relational ministry. The director will work closely with church leadership, volunteers, and families to create a welcoming, safe, and engaging environment where youth can explore their faith, build meaningful relationships, and develop a lifelong commitment to following Jesus.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and oversee weekly small groups for both middle and high school students
- Organize periodic large-group activities, and special events such as retreats, mission trips and service projects
- Recruit and support adult volunteer leaders, ensuring safe and effective ministry practices
- Collaborate with the pastoral staff and church session to align youth programming with the broader vision of the church
- Maintain regular communication with parents and guardians to support faith development at home, and work with church staff to integrate youth into the larger life of the church
Qualifications and Expectations
- A strong personal faith and commitment to the Bible as authoritative for faith and living; and the ability to clearly articulate and defend the faith
- Preference given to candidates with formal education in theology, biblical studies, or related fields
- Youth ministry experience or related work is preferred
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- An understanding of ECO Presbyterian polity, worship, and theology, or the willingness to learn; and alignment with the mission and values of East Main Church
