What are the responsibilities and job description for the Substitutes - Custodians, Maintainers or Groundskeepers position at East Lyme Public Schools?
Seeking candidates interested in one or more of the following positions: Substitute Custodian, Substitute Maintainer, and/or Substitute Groundskeeper. Substitute personnel fill in on an as needed basis for permanent employees on leave or vacation, they may be called to assist during special events or weather emergencies (such as snow removal) and they may be asked to supplement staff and work for the duration of various holiday breaks or the summer break period.
Custodians are responsible for the cleaning and operation of the school buildings. Groundskeepers are responsible for landscaping of the property, mowing, and the care and preparation of the athletic fields. Maintainers are responsible for performing maintenance and repairs of the buildings and associated systems.
Substitute custodians and groundskeepers must have a HS diploma or GED; prior experience in these positions is preferred. Substitute maintainers must have a HS diploma or GED and prior maintenance experience equivalent to a journeyman in at least one of the following trades: carpentry, electrical, plumber, or HVAC is required.

All positions require personnel to perform strenuous, physical labor and to be able to lift 50 pounds repeatedly in the course of their work. Groundskeepers are exposed to outside weather conditions including precipitation and high/low temperature extremes.
