Hybrid Remote Schedule
This role has the option to be a blend of remote and onsite work if department and business needs allow and with approval from direct supervision. Our hybrid remote work schedule combines three (3) days on premises with up to two (2) days remote.
Considering Different Levels
The following levels are open for consideration: Mid and Senior.
All skill levels are being considered and the person chosen for the position will be placed in the level in which they are experienced.
Key Roles
This position is responsible for ensuring proper, accurate, and timely completion of various accounting applications, taxes, records, and financial reports within the established policies and requirements of general accepted accounting principles (GAAP), various regulatory agencies (RUS, IRS, Kentucky Revenue Department, etc.), and East Kentucky Power Cooperative. This position assists a designated area within the Accounting Department in maintaining financial records and ensuring financial transactions are properly recorded. Duties include, but are not limited to, transactional entries, preparation of journal entries, reconciling subsidiary ledgers, compiling data to aid other accountants, and working on projects or matters of limited complexity in a support role to facilitate the Accounting Department in ensuring proper, accurate, and timely completion of various accounting applications, taxes, records, and financial reports within the established policies and requirements of general accepted accounting principles (GAAP), various regulatory agencies (RUS, IRS, Kentucky Revenue Department, etc.), and East Kentucky Power Cooperative.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintains the General Ledger Chart of Accounts, including the PeopleSoft tree structure that is used for combination editing, report writing and account roll-up.
- Ensures that proper controls are in place over financial processes and results.
- Plans and prioritizes work assignments in order to meet monthly close deadlines.
- Creates, reviews, and posts monthly journal entries ensuring their accuracy and compliance with GAAP as well as the Rural Development Utilities Electric Program (RUS).
- Creates and maintains allocations as needed.
- Prepares general ledger account reconciliations.
- Prepares the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP and the policies or procedures prescribed or permitted by the Kentucky Public Service Commission and RUS.
- Prepares monthly management reports and flux analysis.
- Prepares and/or compiles RUS Form 12 and the FERC Form 1.
- Compiles other financial data for internal and external use as needed.
- Assists with research and documentation of technical accounting issues.
- Assists in the annual audit process by providing analysis, supporting schedules, or documentation as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Key Requirements
Education and Certifications / Licenses:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related area required. Accounting degree preferred, but if in related area, a minimum of 18 hours of college level accounting is required.
- Advanced degree or CPA preferred for Senior Level
Experience:
- Five (5) years of related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.
- Senior level - Seven (7) years of related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.
Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of electric utility accounting and the RUS or FERC System of Accounts preferred.
- Familiarity with RUS, FERC, and PSC regulations preferred.
- Knowledge of Excel and ERP, with PeopleSoft applications preferred.
- Strong written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Self-starter with strong initiative.
- Must use discretion when dealing with sensitive accounting documents.
- Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and timeliness.
- Ability to perform under changing circumstances and deadlines.
