Key Roles
The Construction Manager is responsible oversight and management of capital project through execution and construction. The position ensures quality control and project completion consistent with construction schedules, engineering specifications, and contract documentation, including change management. In addition, the position monitors contractor activities to help ensure compliance to all related safety regulations and practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Works with project team (e.g., engineering, project manager, and other stakeholders) in the project development stage to gain understanding of scope, equipment/material requirements, inventories, schedules, contracts, etc.
- Utilizes contractor¿s baselined schedule to evaluate progress against plan. Evaluates labor force, equipment, efficiencies to ensure contractor maintains schedule.
- Works with project manager to assist in coordinating all work onsite including scheduling third-party consultants for testing and verification, as required.
- Tracks and maintains material inventory as required.
- Coordinates delivery of materials to site as required.
- Performs onsite safety orientations.
- Routinely performs site walks.
- Reviews schedule updates for accuracy.
- Ensures environmental, regulatory, and permitting requirements in contract are met.
- Tracks safety incident reporting to ensure compliance with contract requirements.
- Leads weekly construction meetings and daily meetings with contractors and internal personnel, as required by project scope.
- Monitors, tests/verifies critical points throughout the construction projects to ensure proper construction standards, proper operational standards, and proper safety standards are consistently met during construction activities.
- Reviews all Change Orders and requests to make final recommendation to Project Manager.
- Reviews all billing and invoice requests, and makes final recommendation to Project Manager.
- Coordinates all responses to RFIs with Project Manager and Engineering.
- Maintains as-built markups on-site.
- Facilitates the flow of documentation and information between project manager and contractors/construction crews.
- Investigates and evaluates damage or claims regarding construction.
- Performs final inspection of all assigned projects to ensure contractual and operational compliance.
- Submits daily inspection and project update reports.
- Initiates methods to reduce or eliminate possible claims or damage against EKPC as a result of construction.
- Reviews contractor workplans to identify potential project safety, quality, and schedule risks.
- Reviews legal documents (e.g., contracts, deeds, easements, leases, permits).
- Performs safety inspections.
- For transmission projects, coordinates with system operators for the scheduling and energization of the completed project with EKPC transmission system. Verifies proper operation of facility and system, reviews and coordinates outage requests with project manager, performs switching operations, etc.
- For generation projects, coordinates with plant operations to secure necessary Lock Out Tag Out for all work occurring.
- Attends planning or outage meetings with the plant, as required by project scope.
- Leads start-up and commissioning as necessary.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Key Requirements
Education:
- Bachelor¿s degree in construction management or related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute.
Experience:
- Ten (10) years of related experience.
Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of the National Electrical Codes (NEC) and National Electric Safety Code (NESC) related to the safe and proper construction of electrical transmission facilities including substations, transmission lines, right-of-way maintenance, etc.
- Strong (or the ability to quickly develop) working knowledge of EKPC safety guidelines and procedures.
- Knowledge of applicable specifications and standards related to construction (e.g., EKPC construction specifications, OSHA, ACI, ASME, ASTM, NEC, NESC, etc.).
- Thorough knowledge of the construction industry.
- Proficiency in change management, including RFIs, change orders, and claims.
- Knowledge of change order language impacts to contracts.
- Ability to evaluate detailed schedules, progress, and efficiencies of contractors.
- Ability to read and interpret design drawings, specifications, and construction contract documents.
- Ability to use software (e.g., Procore) for documentation of work in the field, RFIs, daily logs, safety incidents.
- Excellent attention to detail, documentation, and organization skills required.
- Strong conflict resolution and de-escalation skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability work effectively with personnel at all levels of the organization, including external contacts.

Working Conditions
- Usual office conditions apply to this position with working conditions including but not limited to regular dust, dirt, extreme temperature, and working on slippery or unstable surfaces. Regular lifting up to twenty (20) pounds. May require lifting up to fifty (50) pounds.
- Regularly required to work outside normal scheduled hours.
- Must maintain valid driver¿s license.
- Frequent travel within the system and occasional out-of-state, which may be overnight.
- Must wear personal protective equipment as required.
- Generation Facility ¿ must be medically certified to wear respiratory protection. Must be able to appropriately don a respirator which would include no facial hair at the sealing surface.
