OUR MISSION
Our mission is to ensure the physical, operational and financial integrity of the regional flood risk management system, in southeastern Louisiana as a defense against floods and storm surge from hurricanes. We accomplish this mission by working with local, regional, state and federal partners to plan, design, construct, operate and maintain projects that will reduce the probability and risk of flooding for the residents and businesses within our jurisdiction.

OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE
The incumbent in this position performs responsible, commissioned and law enforcement duties in the prevention of crime and to protect life and property, while armed and uniformed. Supervision is from a police official of a higher level, i.e. Police Captain and/or Police Superintendent.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS BY AGENCY: The incumbent in this position is required to be POST certified.

Minimum Qualifications

Four years of law enforcement experience.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will substitute for one year of the required experience. The maximum substitution allowed is 60 semester hours which substitutes for two years of experience.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.

Possession of a current Louisiana driver's license.

Possession of an active Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification may be required.

An applicant who has been convicted of a felony or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by state and federal laws is granted.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

  • Serve as the highest-ranking officer on the platoon and supervise sergeant and several police officers

  • Review the investigation of all complaints against police officers prepared by the Sergeant and recommend disciplinary action if needed

  • Report to the scene of all major incidents and serve as point of contact for outside agencies if a joint situation/operation

  • Research potential or current problem areas and offer possible solutions to the Captain

  • Ensure that all members of the platoon are following personal training that the P.O.S.T. Council requires

  • Review equipment maintenance reports to ensure that all vehicles are up to date on necessary maintenance

Position-Specific Details:

Appointment Type: Probational - up to 24 months

Career Progression: This position does not participate in a Career Progression Group.

Compensation: The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
