- High school diploma and completion of at least two years of study at an institute of higher education
- Knowledge of general concepts of child growth, development, and behavior characteristics in special education programs assigned.
- Able to work with a minimum of supervision and handle stressful situations while maintaining emotions.
- Maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff, parents, and general public.
- Able to utilize basic methods and procedures in instructional settings as assigned by Principal, supervising teacher and/or teaching teams.
- Able to receive instructions and/or supervision from the assigned Title I Teacher, Special Ed Teacher, Teacher Team or Principal
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of employment and student matters.
- Ability to effectively manage time and responsibilities.
- Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
- Ability to follow the State and Federal Title I guidelines.
- Works cooperatively with students, classroom teachers, Title I teachers, special needs teachers, reading coach, specialists, parents, and administrators while performing assigned duties and responsibilities.
- Provides core math, reading and other subject instructional assistance or tutoring to EHPS children in areas of educational remediation as assigned.
- Monitors and assists students through drills, practice, and study activities following presentation of instructional concepts or pre-teaching lessons.
- Assists classroom teachers, specialists and/or principal with the development of instructional materials, assessing student progress, managing student behavior and monitoring results.
- Assists in management and shaping of student behavior through use of positive reinforcement strategies and corrective actions directed at improving student behavior.
- Participates in in-service and training workshops, and professional growth activities as appropriate.
- Provides assistance to the classroom, Title I, Special Ed Teachers and Principal in areas related to the maintenance of a variety of reports, forms and records according to procedures required by state and federal rules and regulations.
- Assists students in before and/or after school tutorial classes.
- Maintains student discipline while working with students, and in areas of less than close supervision.
- Assists in administering and scoring tests as well as computing and recording test scores.
- Maintains a neat, orderly, and attractive learning environment, including designing and displaying bulletin boards.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works inside but may be assigned to outside activities. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit, walk, and stand; twist at neck, bend at waist; kneel; reach. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee is required to be able to hear conversations in quiet environments. May be required to lift or move up to 25 pounds.
