Childcare Group Leader & Teacher needed for an after school care program for Elementary Age Students

We are looking for someone who is passionate about caring for children, helping others, and making a difference in people's lives!

We need someone with previous child care experience, that has or plans to have a career in early childhood or elementary education and is interested in guiding students through activities!

About our Program:

We are a local non profit that has for over 20 years served Bingham and Pittman Elementary students with a Before & After School Program. Both schools are Title-1 which just means that many of these families have financial hardships. We love that we're able to serve the community and assist these families in every way we can.

About the position:

The After School Teacher will be in charge of a group of 16 or less students of the same age range with an opportunity to connect with the children and foster their growth and development. Kids need a safe and structured place to spend time after school while their parents finish their work day and that’s where we come in! You will have opportunities to play sports and games with them, teach them new skills like yoga or taking turns, and help them connect with their classmates after a long day sitting at school!

Responsibilities include:

  • Help strengthen the students’ social, emotional, and mental health by fostering relationships and connecting with them.
  • Create an environment where the children know what you expect of them and know their boundaries with you in your gym and playground area.
  • Create a daily schedule and weekly schedule to provide structure for you and your group of students
  • Serve a daily snack to your group - snack supplies and the menu will be provided by the Director
  • Communicate with parents about their child’s behavior when needed.
  • Communicate effectively with other staff members and the Director.
  • Assist in keeping our environment clean and sanitized by sweeping, wiping down counters and tables, removing trash etc.
  • Ride the bus and assist students in remaining calm and safe on the bus.
  • Help students find their peace by connecting with them when they need someone to talk with.
  • Assist in keeping our kitchen and pantry area organized and clean by sorting through supplies and putting them away on the shelves or in the cabinets.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of your classroom area.
  • Connect students to their parents when they come in for pick up.

*Prior experience with childcare related activities is highly desired but not required*

Hours & Pay

Our hours are not flexible and would be the same each week.

Mondays-Fridays

Afternoon shift: 2:30 pm - 5:30 pm

Pay: $15.25/hour

Important Dates:

Staff Orientation Day: TBD, the week before school starts

Work Begins TBD

We follow the Springfield Public Schools schedule and will be closed on school breaks, holidays, snow days, etc. We are also closed over the summers.

This position will be perfect for someone interested in furthering their career in elementary or early childhood education, you will get a ton of great experience and have a blast with our kiddos! Or maybe your someone who loves working at summer camps, this could be the perfect position for you!

*No late nights or weekends or schedule changes AND you'll have school breaks OFF!*
