TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

1.         215 day contract.

2.         Job Type:  ADE Licensed Counselor.

3.         Reports to:  Campus Principal or Designee.

4.         Salary based on district Licensed Salary Schedule.

5.         FLSA Status:  Exempt

 

6.         11 days sick leave per year of employment.

 

7.         3 days personal leave per year of employment. 

 

PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS

 

1.         Current Arkansas Department of Education Counselor’s teaching license.  

 

2.         Must demonstrate a thorough knowledge of curriculum and subject matter as well

            as all other areas of responsibility  including law and local policy.

 

3.         Must be computer literate with at least the ability to send and receive email,

            produce memos, navigate the internet as required by position responsibilities,

            accurately complete and submit program applications, forms, etc.

 

4.         Must be able to read and comprehend written instructions, policies, and procedures.

 

5.         Must be attentive to details, a self-starter, able to work effectively without constant or

            direct supervision.  Must be able to multi-task.

 

6.         Must be of good moral character and strictly follow the Code of Ethics for Arkansas Administrators.

 

7.         Must have good communication and organizational skills.

 

GENERAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES (but not limited to):                 


1.         Adhere to and support federal and state law, school board policy, other school guidelines

            including administrative rules and guidelines.

2.         Be available as needed for counseling at all times.

3.         Provide Crisis Counseling when needed.

4.         Be involved in teacher/parent/student conferences as needed.

5.         Aid teachers in becoming aware of individual student academic,
            social, or physical needs.     

6.         Disseminate appropriate college, vocational, and career information
            when grade level appropriate.

7.         Keep available up-to-date information regarding student concerns
            (i.e. drugs, alcohol, etc.)

8.         Assist with the standardized testing process if needed.

9.         Interpret test results to school administrators, teachers, students, and
            parents.

10.      Be available to serve on committees, both campus and district-wide.

11.      Help process referrals and appropriate placement.

12.      Coordinate spring registration and orientation.

13.      Be available to teach classes or make class presentations.


14.      Assist with developing the master schedule, student registration, and
           student class placement as needed.

15.      Assist students in making appropriate curricular and extracurricular
           choices.

16.      Develop and present small or large group guidance activities.

17.      (Secondary Counselors)  Keep students advised of graduation
           requirements, their status toward graduation, their grade point, and
          any other information a student might need to know to graduate from
          high school.

18.     Assist students in securing college scholarships or other financial aid
          to pursue a post-secondary education.

19.     Practice punctual, timely, and accurate completion of required
          records and reports, and appropriate use of planning time.       

20.     Demonstrate tact and effective communication skills when dealing
          with others.

21.     Demonstrate consistent co-operation and professionalism when
          dealing others.

22.     The counselor will exercise confidentiality, discretion, and appropriate
          use of language when working with students.

23.     Perform other duties as assigned by the campus principal or
          designee.

SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS and/or REQUIREMENTS:

Physical Requirements:
  Must be physically able to sit, stand for prolonged periods of time, walk, occasionally stoop, lift objects that fall within the scope of job responsibility.  Must have the dexterity to perform the duties and responsibilities of the job.

Intelligence:  Requires the ability to read and follow a variety of instructions on district, state, and federal websites as well as hard copy.

Language Ability: Requires the ability to read a variety of correspondences.  Requires the ability to prepare reports, forms, system documentation, etc. using prescribed formats and conforming to all rules of grammar.

Verbal Aptitude:  Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to give oral and written instructions.  Must be able to communicate effectively.  Must possess the ability to speak to people with poise, voice control, and confidence.  Must be able to deliver effective presentations to both small and large audiences.
