NURSE JOB DESCRIPTION
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
1. 185 day contract; 7.75 hours per day.
2. Salary based on district salary schedule for the position.
3. 10 days sick leave per year of employment.
4. 3 days personal leave.
5. School holidays off work.
PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Possess a current nursing license to practice professional nursing in Arkansas
and successfully complete any other training and/or certifications required or
desired for the position.
2. Must pass an Arkansas State Police background check, an FBI background
check, and a Department of Human Services background check all at your own
expense. ($49.25)
3. Must be able to work cooperatively with others as well as have a calm, patient
demeanor with everyone.
4. Must demonstrate good oral and written communication skills and be able to
communicate effectively.
5. Must maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
6. Must have an interest in children and want to be an integral part of the total
school.
7. Must maintain a neat and appropriate appearance (incl. no visible piercing or
jewelry of any kind other than a simple wedding band) and project good health
habits.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Ensure compliance with Arkansas State Board of Nursing Rules, federal and
state laws. Follow district policies as well as procedures, protocols, and other
instructions provided by the Sheridan School District Head Nurse.
2. Provide nursing care and conduct or assist with physical screenings of students.
3. Assess students and implement first aid measures for students as needed.
4. Assume responsibility or assist with the appropriate assessment, planning,
intervention, evaluation, management, and referral activities for students.
5. Implement and record required programs and record required screening
programs; notify parents when further medical evaluation is indicated.
6. Establish and/or update health and immunization records.
7. Prepare and maintain student clinic records and prepare required reports.
8. Administer daily and as needed medications and nursing care procedures
prescribed by the student’s physician.
9. Initiate emergency procedures for students and staff as needed.
10. Develop or assist with Individual Health Care Plans and 504 Plans for students
on a case by case basis.
11. Orient the staff and teach specific medical procedures for the evaluation and
maintenance of the medically involved student in the classroom.
12. Provide health education and anticipatory counseling.
13. Follow procedures for suspected cases of child abuse and neglect.
14. Act as a liaison between the school, home health department professionals, and
other community agencies.
15. Maintain any nursing related equipment and assesses the need for consumable
supplies on a regular basis.
16. Perform other related work as required or assigned.
SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS and/or REQUIRMENTS:
Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of a nurse in the Sheridan School District:
While performing the duties of this job, a nurse may be required to stand, sit, conduct repetitious hand and body movements, grasp, push/pull, perform fine motor and gross motor skills, bend, lift, squat, kneel, climb, and reach. The ability to lift students as required and has the stamina to stand all day for several consecutive days.
Intelligence: Requires the ability to read and follow a variety of instructions. Must demonstrate an acceptable level of proficiency with computers and programs associated with the position.
Personal Uniform Requirements: The employee must wear scrubs purchased by the school district. Any other garments (i.e. shoes, jacket, coat, sweater, etc.) are the responsibility of each nurse.
