What are the responsibilities and job description for the Elementary Physical Education Teacher position at East Elementary?
Primary Purpose:
To provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in physical education that help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. The PE teacher will enable students to develop motor skills, coordination, teamwork, and a lifelong appreciation for health and fitness.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
- Valid state teaching certification in Physical Education (EC–6 or appropriate grade level)
- Demonstrated knowledge of physical education curriculum and instruction
- CPR/First Aid certification (preferred or required by district)
Key Responsibilities:
Instructional Planning & Delivery:
- Develop and implement engaging lesson plans aligned with state standards (e.g., TEKS in Texas)
- Provide instruction in a variety of physical activities (e.g., games, sports, fitness, movement skills)
- Differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs and abilities
- Promote physical fitness, health, and wellness concepts
Classroom & Behavior Management:
- Establish and maintain a safe, structured, and positive learning environment
- Manage student behavior in accordance with district policies
- Ensure proper use and care of equipment and facilities
Assessment & Evaluation:
- Assess student progress in physical fitness, motor skills, and participation
- Maintain accurate records of student performance
- Provide feedback to students, parents, and staff as needed
Safety & Supervision:
- Enforce safety rules and procedures during all physical activities
- Monitor students to prevent injuries and respond appropriately when incidents occur
- Maintain inventory and inspect equipment regularly
Collaboration & Communication:
- Work collaboratively with classroom teachers, staff, and administration
- Communicate effectively with parents regarding student progress and concerns
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school events
Professional Responsibilities:
- Maintain professional competence through ongoing professional development
- Comply with district, state, and federal policies and regulations
- Serve as a positive role model for students
Working Conditions:
- Indoor (gymnasium) and outdoor environments
- Exposure to varying weather conditions
- Moderate physical activity including standing, walking, lifting, and demonstrating exercises
