School Nurse
Job Summary
Provide nursing services to the student population on a day to day, as needed basis.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree (or higher) in Nursing.
- Valid License to practice as a Registered Nurse in Massachusetts.
- Requisite licensure as school nurse, defined by DESE, required.
- Current certification in CPR/AED and First Aid.
- Experience in child health, community health, or other relevant clinical nursing.
- Excellent written and oral communication.
- Ability to use technology effectively.
Responsibilities
- Utilizes best practices in school nursing to provide care for students for illness and/or injuries occurring during the school day and for management of chronic illnesses during school.
- Provide emergency care in cases of injury or sudden illness.
- Communicate with parents/caregivers, faculty/staff, and healthcare providers as needed.
- Provide for assessment, triage, and treatment of illness and injury as appropriate.
- Administer medications as ordered by the school physician and/or student /staff physicians.
- Perform yearly school health screenings as required by state law.
- Files Injury Reporting form/ Student Accident forms per district protocol. Adheres to MA state regulations relative to the responsibilities of the school nurse in the management of concussive injuries in the school setting.
- Maintains strict student/staff (patient) confidentiality at all times while consistently promoting professional nursing standards in individual practice and with district policy/procedure and protocol.
- Collaborates with school staff and administration to monitor and support students’ attendance, health needs, and other mental health and social-emotional learning needs.
- Creates and maintains medical plans and Individualized Health Care Plans (IHCP’s) for students with special medical concerns.
- Collaborates with school counsellors to develop and update 504 plans as indicated for those students with medical needs.
- Participate in IEP and/or 504 meetings for those students with medical needs.
- Maintains comprehensive electronic school health records.
- Monitors compliance of student health records, including immunizations.
- Responsible for other job-related duties as needed.

Salary : $64,072 - $135,628
