What are the responsibilities and job description for the Development Director position at East Colfax Community Collective?
The East Colfax Community Collective (EC3) is a grassroots, community-led organization of
local non-profits, immigrants, refugees, small business leaders, renters, homeowners, and allies
whose mission is fight displacement and build collective power in our community to shape our
own destiny. Our vision is to be a multicultural community where low and moderate-income
residents and locally-owned businesses can thrive.
The Development Director will play a key role in strengthening EC3’s long-term funding stability
through grassroots fundraising, donor engagement, grant writing, and development strategy
implementation. This position will collaborate closely with the ED, Operations, and Program
teams to secure diversified funding that supports the organization’s mission, programs, and
strategic goals.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Commitment to Anti-Oppression and Equal Access
-All EC3 staff are expected to receive foundational and ongoing anti-oppression
training.
-Development Director must be ready to advocate to correct issues of equity in
access to all policy and community spaces in which EC3 operates.
2. Grassroots Fundraising & Donor Management
-Identify and cultivate relationships with individual donors, local businesses, and
corporate partners.
-Develop and implement strategies for donor retention and engagement.
-Manage donor database in Every Action and ensure timely acknowledgment of
gifts.
-Own building EC3’s yearly grassroots fundraising campaign, Colorado Gives
Day, and ensure 100% of the Board and staff are involved in and leading this
campaign. Meet organizational goals for event.
-Regularly hold one-on-one meetings with prospective and current donors to
identify their self-interest and more deeply involve them in our organization and
our fundraising efforts.
3. Grant Management
-Research, write, and submit grant proposals aligned with EC3’s strategic
priorities.
-Own reporting requirements, grant deadlines, and compliance.
-Collaborate with the Finance Team to ensure accurate budget preparation and
reporting for grants.
-Collaborate with Operations Director to monitor grant expenditures to ensure
funds are being expended completely and according to grant requirements.
-Build strong relationships with foundations and grant managers to increase the
long-term stability of the EC3.
-Regularly update the donor database to ensure all grant information is easily
accessible to the team and Board of Directors.
-Ensure all grant contracts and compliance documents are regularly tracked and
accessible to organizing staff.
-Always engage staff teams who are impacted by grants to ensure they have a
voice in approving grant deliverables before they are submitted to ensure
alignment across the team.
4. Development Strategy
-Create and implement annual fundraising plans to meet EC3’s programmatic and
operational needs.
-Analyze fundraising opportunities and performance and provide
recommendations for improvement and growth of EC3’s annual budget.
-Assist in integrating development goals with organizational strategic planning.
-Ensure that all funding opportunities we pursue fall within our mission and protect
the organization from mission drift in pursuing funding.
5. Communications & Outreach
-Curate content for fundraising campaigns, EC3 monthly newsletters, and social
media posts to regularly engage with donors and share our impact on EC3’s key
campaigns.
-Own the creation of EC3’s Annual Report as a key selling point to increase EC3
funding.
-Represent EC3 at community events and meetings to expand funding
opportunities.
Qualifications, Preferred Core Skill Set, and Experience:
-Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in fundraising, development, or grant writing.
-Strong written and verbal communication skills.
-Knowledge of donor management databases, communications platforms, and
fundraising best practices.
-Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

SALARY AND BENEFITS:
-Starting salary of $81,000-$84,000 depending on proven experience in the field/role. You
will be paid through direct deposit twice a month.
-New employees are eligible for Medical, Dental, Vision and Life insurance after the 1st
month of employment. EC3 will contribute 95% toward the cost of the employee-only
medical premium.
-EC3 will contribute 50% of the employee-only Dental and Vision insurance premiums
and 100% of the Life insurance premium.
-Each month you will accrue 13.3 hours of vacation time you can use in coordination with
prior approval from your supervisor for a total of 160 Hours of PTO in year one
-$50/month Phone Stipend
-$1,200 year Health and Wellness benefit to assist with health and wellness expenses for
employees and dependents. This benefit is available after a 90 day probationary period.
-$1,000 per year for professional development and capacity building. Prior approval from
your supervisor is required. This benefit is available after a 90 day probationary period.
-$1,000 per year HRA benefit to assist with health related expenses for employees and
their dependents. This benefit is available after a 90 day probationary period.
-Hybrid work environment
Working Conditions: Work is performed about half in an office setting and requires sitting
for extended periods and half out in the community traveling. As such, it may include walking,
standing, lifting up to 30 pounds, carrying, pushing, pulling, bending, reaching, climbing,
balancing, stooping, and kneeling. Work also includes manual dexterity for typing/operating
computer, holding, grasping, and turning objects. Work also requires the ability to speak and
use unaided or aided vision or hearing.
