Diesel / Gas Mechanic / Public Transit OPENING DATE: January 24, 2025 CLOSING DATE TO APPLY: Open Until Filled EXEMPT/NON-EXEMPT: Non-Exempt POSITION STATUS: Regular Full Time Department: Bus Transit Reports to: Director / Supervisors Pay Range: In accordance with the City of East Chicago’s Salary Ordinance passed by the Common Council Complies with federal and state vehicle safety requirements. Good communication skills, physical strength, and stamina. Keeps equipment and vehicles available for use by completing preventive maintenance schedules. Determines vehicle condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic tests; and identifying worn and damaged parts. Conducting repairs aiming for maximum reliability. Corrects vehicle deficiencies by removing, repairing, adjusting, overhauling, assembling, disassembling, and replacing major components and parts. Verifies vehicle performance by conducting test drives. Maintains vehicle records by annotating repairs and reporting on issues. Keeps shop equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; and calling for repairs. Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; and verifying receipts. Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; and reading technical and regulation publications. Enhances maintenance department by exploring new opportunities to add value to the job accomplishments. Undertake other duties as assigned. Must possess a valid Class B CDL Indiana driver’s license with NO air brake restriction Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certification Preferred HOW TO APPLY Internal Preferably employed with the City of East Chicago for at least one (1) year.
