Job Title: Fiber Warehouse Inventory Specialist

Department: Broadband Services

Reports To: Field Operations Manager

FLSA Status: Nonexempt

Date: March 2024


Summary: A Warehouse Inventory Specialist’s goal is to ensure the accuracy of inventory within the warehouse and its software systems. They are the main points of contact for warehouse operations for day-to-day processes, processing orders, packing orders, issuing materials, and for inventory problems that may arise. Warehouse Inventory Specialists are responsible for maintaining warehouse cleanliness, receiving and shipping materials, inventory control, resolving inventory issues, and ensuring that inventory counts remain accurate. They also identify inventory control process issues and coordinate with management to implement process improvements.


Objectives

  • Maintain accurate records of all fiber inventory in the warehouse, including incoming shipments, outgoing orders, and current stock levels.
  • Regularly reconcile physical inventory counts with computerized records to identify any discrepancies and take corrective actions.
  • Analyze inventory data to determine optimal stock levels for different types of fiber based on demand forecasts, production schedules, and storage capacity.
  • Inspect incoming fiber shipments to ensure they meet quality standards and specifications.
  • Utilize inventory management software to track inventory movements, generate reports, and streamline inventory-related processes.

Essential Functions

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to communicate with contractors.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Basic understanding of moving equipment used in the warehouse.
  • Receive and process material and product shipments from freight companies and provide documentation to the accounting office.
  • Stock and organize inventory in the warehouse.
  • Pull and issue equipment and materials each day for installation technicians and other employees and contractors.
  • Receive returned equipment/materials, inspect for damages, and prepare for redeployment.
  • Check-in, prepare, and clean returned customer equipment to be re-issued to installation technicians and contractors.
  • Track and document all equipment and materials issued to appropriate work orders and submit through appropriate software.
  • Prepare purchase order requests for materials and supplies.
  • Assist co-workers and other team members as needed.
  • Perform other duties as requested or required by management.
  • Able to communicate effectively with others.
  • Ability to work without direct supervision as required by the job.
  • Maintains confidentiality of all customer and company information.
  • Maintain organization and cleanliness of the warehouse.
  • Maintain the work area in a neat and orderly fashion.
  • Promote a safe and drug-free workplace.

Education/Experience:
High school diploma; and two years related experience in warehouse operation is preferred. A thorough knowledge of telecommunications and utility construction is beneficial. Comprehensive knowledge of shipping and receiving procedures, purchase orders and invoices is preferred.


Language Ability:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.


Reasoning Ability:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Windows based software for word processing, spreadsheets, and database.


Certificates and Licenses:

Valid Driver’s License. Forklift certification will be required within the first six (6) months.


Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position has no supervisory role.


Work Environment:

Regular exposure to moving machinery and/or vehicles; regular exposure to weather including heat, cold, dampness and/or humidity. Flexibility to work between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m.; including weekends, with the possibility to flex up or down hours depending upon business needs. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud.


Physical Demands:
Heavy physical exertion required for this position. Walking and standing will be required. Must be physically able to lift and/or move up to 75 lbs. without external assistance or aid.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk and sit and use hands to handle or feel. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus. Other specific abilities include the ability to talk using the telephone and to hear within normal range.
