What are the responsibilities and job description for the American Sign Language Instructor position at East Central Ohio Educational Service Center?
The East Central Ohio ESC is seeking a Teacher certified in American Sign Language (ASL) for the 2024-2025 school year. Individual will be responsible for providing instruction to students though remote/distance learning technology, while coordinating in-classroom activities with an aide or classroom supervisor. The ASL Teacher will also create a learning environment that is challenging and developmentally responsive so that students may develop to their full academic potential.
Responsibilities:
- Develops written lesson plans and teaches scheduled classes; documents teaching performance objectives
- Creates effective learning experiences for all students
- Implements effective pupil management procedures; maintains high standards and upholds the student conduct code
- Develops and maintains a positive learning environment
- Helps parents and students understand academic and behavioral objectives
- Evaluates the needs of students based on all available information; varies instructional techniques to address individual learning styles
- Provides guidance, communicates high expectations and shows an active interest in student progress
- Facilitates critical-thinking, problem-solving and creativity skills
- Collaborates with other teachers; shares knowledge and resources that enhance student learning
- Incorporates the effective use of available technology in record management and program activities
- Proctors standardized and alternative tests as directed; follows test security procedures and helps students with content-area preparation activities
- Evaluates student achievement/performance and assigns grades; prepares progress reports and consults with parents as needed
- Consults with support personnel to address student concerns (i.e., excessive absences, at-risk behavior, mental/physical health, etc.)
- Works with supervisors and support staff to eliminate unacceptable or unsafe conditions/behaviors
- May assist with preparation adn implementation of intervention and IEPs for students meeting eligibility requirements
- Participates in conferences, staff meeting and professional growth opportunities as directed
Minimum Requirements:
- Valid Ohio teacher’s license with endorsement in appropriate subject area
- Record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment
- Demonstrated knowledge of subject content, curriculum and methodology of effective teaching
- Skilled in the use of multi-media and computer technology to teach in a remote/distance learning environment
