Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit

Primary Purpose of Position
This position will be funded by the NIH-R01 grant. The projects funded by these grants study the influence of exercise during pregnancy on maternal and infant/child health. The projects have been slowed by COVID but are now ramping up with the need to accelerate recruitment, testing, and exercise training of the subjects in order to meet numbers consistent with pre-COVID goals.

Specifically, the position will assist in the following under the direction of Linda May, Ph.D.:
  • Perform adult and pediatric phlebotomy and process the blood samples.
  • Assist in storing and tracking the tissue samples.
  • Assist with the study measurements on pregnant participants, as well as the postpartum women and their infants.
  • Learn the procedures needed to conduct proper exercise training (both resistance and endurance). This involves being trained and certified by the current staff.
  • Oversee and interact directly with the human subjects during exercise training which will take place in the Human Performance Laboratory (HPL). Direct interaction is required to ensure the proper exercise loads and techniques are being performed, and data is gathered by the employee during the exercise sessions.
  • Assist with scheduling participants for the study sessions.
  • Assist with the recruitment and retention of study participants.
  • Responsible for data entry.
