East Bay Innovation Academy (EBIA) is a college preparatory public charter school in Oakland, CA serving students in grades 6-8. Our mission is to prepare a diverse group of students to succeed in college and to become thoughtful, engaged citizens who are leaders and innovators in a 21st-century global world. Through personalization and project-based learning, and the integration of technology and blended learning, EBIA engages students in meaningful work that develops the competencies necessary for success in college, career, and civic life. OPPORTUNITY

EBIA seeks a dynamic and experienced Middle School Assistant Principal to lead the school for the 2026–27 academic year. The Assistant Principal will work closely with the Principal to drive academic achievement, provide instructional coaching to staff, and plan and implement professional development.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Key Responsibilities of the Assistant Principal include:

• Work collaboratively with the Principal to implement the academic program to ensure high expectations for student learning;
• Work collaboratively with the Principal to create and sustain a positive and supportive staff culture based on trust, risk-taking, respect, reflective learning, and collaboration;
• Provide regular instructional observations and coaching to teachers aligned to the EBIA Instructional Framework;
• Co-plan and co-facilitate professional development in partnership with Principal and school leadership team, including professional learning that supports anti-racist and pro-Black practices;
• Assist Principal with teacher hiring process;
• Work with the Special Education Team to ensure 504 accommodations, IEP modifications, and counseling needs are met;
• Support school culture team to uphold a consistent and positive learning environment and provide supervision support during lunch and other times as needed;
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with all school stakeholders (students, faculty/staff, parents/guardians), ensuring transparent lines of communication at all times and addressing issues and concerns in a timely and constructive manner;
• Support and sometimes supervise school enrollment efforts to ensure a fully enrolled school with a waiting list;
• Act as Senior Administrator on duty when the Principal is off-campus, or unavailable to staff or students;
• Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

In order to fulfill these responsibilities, the ideal Assistant Principal candidate will be:

• Proven instructional leader with Project Based Learning experience;
• Experienced in coaching and developing teachers and staff at all levels;
• Exceptional relationship builder who can quickly gain the confidence of all stakeholders;
• Passionate advocate for all students and families who has a commitment to maintaining a strong culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion at EBIA;
• Knowledgeable about the academic and social emotional needs of students, especially those of different racial, linguistic, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds;
• Bachelor’s degree and California teaching credential required;
• At least 5 years of successful classroom teaching experience is required;
• Administrative Services credential preferred.
