JOB DESCRIPTION: GROUNDS CREW CHIEF
JOB GOAL: A Grounds Crew Chief supervises and plans aspects relating to activities relating to the care of facilities, parking lots, play areas, athletic fields and equipment in the schools in order that they be kept attractive, hygienic, safe, comfortable, and clean for those using them. The incumbent is responsible for the grounds personnel and equipment to perform site maintenance duties.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Regular daily attendance;
- Must be ambulatory; ability to walk and carry heavy items and to be able to operate all required equipment;
- Must have good vision; ability to see well enough to meet standards set by supervisor or district;
- Must possess physical strength; enough strength to lift, move, and carry heavy items throughout the day;
- Intelligence; must be able to evaluate a problem, devise and implement a solution;
- Must possess social skills; must be able to work in a team
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervises the employees assigned to the grounds crew and plans the daily and long range schedule;
- Supervises and participates in the various routine job assignments such as cutting grass, raking leaves, cleaning walks, trimming bushes, shrubs and trees;
- Supervises and participates in the maintenance and repair of all concrete and black top surfaces, including sidewalks, parking lots, roads, athletic fields and tracks;
- Supervises and participates in the care of lawns, trees, shrubs, flower gardens;
- Supervises and participates in the development of new ornamental· horticulture displays and plans nursery stock development;
- Develops, implements, supervises and participates in the snow removal plan to allow the opening of school roads, parking lots access walks and building entrances including the handling and distribution of sand, salt and other materials;
- Supervises and participates in the hauling of supplies, removal of rubbish, grass and other debris;
- May requisition supplies and equipment as required;
- May plan budget requests- as to personnel, equipment and supplies;
- May evaluate work of assigned grounds employees;
- Other duties as
REPORTS TO: Reports directly to the Maintenance Mechanic Crew Chief.
SUPERVISES: Supervision may be exercised over groundsworkers or
student workers by assigning their work, giving instructions, providing assistance and observing the work progress.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Graduation for high school or possession.of a high school equivalency diploma;
- Nine years of experience in site maintenance or grounds maintenance work, one year of which was in a supervisory capacity;
- Working knowledge of maintenance and minor repair of motors, mowers, ;
- Working knowledge of mechanical equipment (trucks, tractors, gang mowers, );
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written
SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- Possession of a valid "D" New York State driver's license at the time of appointment;
- May be required to apply for a pesticide applicator's license at the time of
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: The incumbent in this position will work 40 hours per week, 12 months per year. Pay and fringe benefits are determined by the collective bargaining agreement between the District and the. East Aurora Civil Service Personnel Association.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the Maintenance Mechanic Crew Chief.
