QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or
university and be properly certified to meet Illinois Teaching License Standards.
A Professional Educator License (PEL) with middle school endorsement, content
area endorsements required. LBSI, Reading and/or Math endorsements
preferred. ESL endorsement preferred.
2. Teaching experience preferred.
3. Displays quality work through accuracy and attention to detail.
4. Committed to continuous improvement and data based decision-making.
5. Effective written, verbal and technology based communication skills.
6. Works effectively and productively as a member of a team.
7. Ability to work with a linguistically and culturally diverse public.
8. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of child growth and development,
effective instructional strategies, classroom management, learning assessment
and diagnosis, and research related to learning.
JOB DESCRIPTION / RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Instruct and supervise students within the In-School Suspension (ISI) setting.
2. Consult with classroom teachers to identify areas students should be working on
during ISI.
3. Consult with assistant principal to identify reason student is in ISI.
4. In collaboration with classroom teacher, PBIS team and/or Behavioral Specialist,
assist with identifying and addressing root causes for inappropriate behaviors and
in implementing strategies to help student improve behavior.
5. Establish and maintain open lines of communication with student and with
appropriate school personnel regarding students’ academic and behavioral
performance as observed during ISI.
6. Encourage each student to improve behavior by helping them to develop a sense
of worth, dignity and purpose.
7. Direct and supervise students, implement MTSS, and maintain and document
discipline both in and out of the classroom during the assigned workday.
8. Implement the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and
objectives.
9. Provide experiences and activities designed to motivate students to achieve to the
maximum of their capabilities.
10. Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to
the maturity and interest of students.
11. Seek assistance from or through the principal, supportive services staff and other
specialists to improve the instructional program, or help solve specific problems.
12. Develop and submit lesson plans, as required.
13. Maintain accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policy
and administrative regulations.
14. Administer and/or monitor state, district and local assessments, as required.
15. Submit reports to the appropriate person(s), as required.
16. Communicate with parents, administrators and other applicable school personnel
regarding student’s academic and social/emotional progress and accommodations.
17. Exhibit legal and ethical behavior in their professional practices; follow and
implement all district rules, regulations, practices and policies.
18. Demonstrate a high level of professionalism with the ability to maintain
confidentiality and personal flexibility in all areas.
19. Continuously improve professional practices, model lifelong learning, and exhibit
leadership in the school and professional community.
20. Works cooperatively with all staff to deliver educational services relating to the
instruction of children.
21. Participate in / attend building and district meetings, as required and including
PLC team meetings.
22. Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities
provided by the district and/or in self-selected professional growth activities.
23. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment,
materials and facilities. Provides appropriate safety instruction.
24. Perform any other duties and responsibilities as may be requested by the principal
or designee.
