What We’re Looking For

A nurturing, creative, and organized Lead Afterschool Teacher who:

  • Holds at least an CDA or Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education or is currently working towards obtaining a degree in education.
  • Understands child development and the power of play-based learning
  • Communicates with warmth, professionalism, and a team spirit
  • Can balance fun with structure — helping children explore, create, and thrive
  • Loves collaboration and sees teaching as a lifelong learning journey

What You’ll Do

  • Monday through Friday; shift options- 1pm-6pm, 12pm-6pm, or 3pm-6pm
  • Greet Parkdale Elementary students as they arrive via school transportation
  • Plan and implement engaging, age-appropriate activities
  • Foster a safe, nurturing, and inclusive classroom environment
  • Guide and mentor 2 co-teachers to support children’s growth and success
  • Build positive relationships with families through open and professional communication
  • Encourage social, emotional, and cognitive development through play and exploration
  • Keep your classroom organized, joyful, and full of curiosity

Responsibilities

  • Plan and facilitate age-appropriate activities including arts and crafts, sports, games, and educational projects that promote creativity and teamwork.
  • Supervise children during indoor and outdoor activities, ensuring their safety at all times through effective child supervision and behavior management techniques.
  • Maintain a positive and inclusive atmosphere that encourages participation, respect, and kindness among children.
  • Implement first aid protocols promptly when necessary, including administering CPR or AED as needed, following established safety procedures.
  • Collaborate with team members to develop individualized support strategies for children with special education needs or behavioral challenges.
  • Communicate regularly with parents or guardians regarding children's progress, behavior, and any concerns that arise during program hours.
  • Uphold all childcare regulations and health guidelines to ensure a safe environment for everyone involved.

Requirements

  • Prior experience working with children in educational, childcare, camp, or youth program settings is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of childhood development principles and effective behavior management strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage classroom or group settings with strong classroom management skills.
  • Experience working with children with special needs or in inclusive settings is a plus.
  • Ability to lead outdoor work activities safely and confidently in various weather conditions.
  • Excellent communication skills to foster positive relationships with children, parents, and team members.
  • Enthusiasm for youth development programs, tutoring, theater experience, or babysitting is advantageous.
