What We’re Looking For
A nurturing, creative, and organized Lead Afterschool Teacher who:
- Holds at least an CDA or Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education or is currently working towards obtaining a degree in education.
- Understands child development and the power of play-based learning
- Communicates with warmth, professionalism, and a team spirit
- Can balance fun with structure — helping children explore, create, and thrive
- Loves collaboration and sees teaching as a lifelong learning journey
What You’ll Do
- Monday through Friday; shift options- 1pm-6pm, 12pm-6pm, or 3pm-6pm
- Greet Parkdale Elementary students as they arrive via school transportation
- Plan and implement engaging, age-appropriate activities
- Foster a safe, nurturing, and inclusive classroom environment
- Guide and mentor 2 co-teachers to support children’s growth and success
- Build positive relationships with families through open and professional communication
- Encourage social, emotional, and cognitive development through play and exploration
- Keep your classroom organized, joyful, and full of curiosity

Responsibilities
- Plan and facilitate age-appropriate activities including arts and crafts, sports, games, and educational projects that promote creativity and teamwork.
- Supervise children during indoor and outdoor activities, ensuring their safety at all times through effective child supervision and behavior management techniques.
- Maintain a positive and inclusive atmosphere that encourages participation, respect, and kindness among children.
- Implement first aid protocols promptly when necessary, including administering CPR or AED as needed, following established safety procedures.
- Collaborate with team members to develop individualized support strategies for children with special education needs or behavioral challenges.
- Communicate regularly with parents or guardians regarding children's progress, behavior, and any concerns that arise during program hours.
- Uphold all childcare regulations and health guidelines to ensure a safe environment for everyone involved.
Requirements
- Prior experience working with children in educational, childcare, camp, or youth program settings is highly preferred.
- Knowledge of childhood development principles and effective behavior management strategies.
- Demonstrated ability to manage classroom or group settings with strong classroom management skills.
- Experience working with children with special needs or in inclusive settings is a plus.
- Ability to lead outdoor work activities safely and confidently in various weather conditions.
- Excellent communication skills to foster positive relationships with children, parents, and team members.
- Enthusiasm for youth development programs, tutoring, theater experience, or babysitting is advantageous.
