Position: Teacher Assistant Positions Available (Paraprofessional) (Pre-K)

 

Location: Early Childhood Education Center (ECEC)

 

Supervisor: Site Principal, Lisa Banks

 

Reports to:  Assigned Teacher, Building Principal

 

Status:  Non-Exempt

 

Benefits:  Paid Benefits under Flexible Benefit Allowance

Qualifications:

48 Hours College Credit OR Passing Score on Paraprofessional Test, High School Diploma or Equivalent, Completion of Paraprofessional Training as Required by the OSDE

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. State Department of Education Paraprofessional Registry Training
  2. Paraprofessional Test or 48 hours of college credits (transcripts will be required for completion)
  3. High School Diploma or GED
  4. Maintain current training and skills in CPR and First Aid
  5. Complete universal precautions training
  6. Complete an additional 6 hours of personnel development each school year 
  7. Additional Requirements for Tier I and Tier II Paraprofessionals (background check, SDE Certificate)
  8. Additional Professional Development Training as Mandated by Sand Springs Public Schools

 

Job Goal:

Provides adult support to small groups of students or one-on-one with an individual student to assist the student in unique educational goals.

 

Classification: Nonexempt

 

Evaluation: Annually by Supervising Teacher and Site Principal

Regular Requirements:

Stand for extended periods; walk; twist at the neck and trunk; bend and reach with hands and arms overhead, above the shoulder, and horizontally; repetitive use of fingers and hands to grasp and/or operate equipment and demonstrate lessons to students; lift/move up to 75 pounds.

 

Occasional Requirements: Lift/move up to 75 pounds

 

Visual Requirements: Close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus

 

Hearing/Speaking Requirements: Adequate to exchange information

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Note: These duties vary based on the individual student's needs and individualized education plans.

Typical duties may include:

• Monitors students on district-provided transportation and assists students in getting on or off buses and vans.

• Accompanies students during meals and assists students with getting and eating meals and cleaning up after meals.

• Accompanies students to classes or therapy services, monitors behavior (intervening as needed), and assists with classwork.

• Assists students with motor, balance, social, and life skills.

• Possibly assists students with personal care, including dressing, toileting, and diapering.

• Monitors students during nap times.

• Cleans and maintains an efficient work area.

• Assists with instruction, errands, and copies related to an assigned student(s).

• Attends IEP and other meetings and training as requested.

• Alerts assigned teacher of concerns related to the student.

• Maintains confidentiality of student information.

• Compliance with all federal, state, and local laws and board policies and procedures.

• Utilizes professional behavior in all school-related interactions.

• Assists teacher in monitoring students’ progress toward academic and behavioral IEP goals.

• Reinforces learning in small groups or with an individual student while the teacher works with other students.

• Assists the teacher in observing, recording, and charting behavior.

• Assists the teacher with crisis problems and behavior management.

• Provides one-on-one tutoring if it is scheduled at a time when a student would not otherwise receive instruction from a teacher.

• Scores objective tests and papers and maintains appropriate records for teachers.

• Carries out instructional programs designed by the teacher.

• Works with the teacher to develop classroom schedules.

• Operates and maintains classroom equipment.

• Takes over a class for a short period of time.

• Supervises children in the hallway, lunchroom, and playground.

• Performs all other tasks as the supervisor may assign.
