Looking for the right applicant to join our team at our Clarkston Early Bird Supply/Quality Truss location.
A truss manufacturing sawyer operates automated or manual saws to cut wood pieces for building component roof trusses. Key duties include reading work orders, adjusting saws for specific cuts, and stacking the finished lumber. This role also involves maintaining equipment, monitoring material flow, and working with supervisors and other team members to meet production schedules and quality standards.
Key responsibilities
- Operating saws: Operate and adjust various types of saws, including automated and CNC equipment, to cut lumber according to specific work orders.
- Reading and interpreting plans: Review work orders, blueprints, or computerized production software to understand the required cuts and measurements for each job.
- Material handling: Move and stack cut lumber, monitor the flow of materials, and communicate with forklift operators or leaders when more materials are needed.
- Quality control: Inspect cut lumber for proper length, angle, and quality; make minor adjustments as needed, and report any defects or issues to supervisors.
- Equipment maintenance: Perform daily inspections of saws and other equipment, make minor adjustments, and notify leaders or maintenance personnel of any problems.
- Safety and compliance: Adhere to all safety rules and regulations, maintain a clean and organized work area, and follow the company's attendance policy.
Skills and qualifications
- Education: A high school diploma or equivalent is typically required.
- Experience: Prior shop or manufacturing experience is preferred, but will train the right appliant. Forklift or construction experience preferred
- Physical demands: The ability to stand for long periods and lift frequently, sometimes up to 50 pounds, is necessary.
- Technical skills: Basic understanding of how to operate and adjust saws, read a tape measure, and work with other power tools.
- Soft skills: Strong attention to detail, good hand-eye coordination, the ability to follow instructions, and work effectively as part of a team are essential.
Truss manufacturing is preferred but will train the right applicant. Hours will be Monday-Thursday 10 hour shifts with a start time of 5:00 AM and potential overtime when needed.
