Role Description The Energy Modeller will support the design and evaluation of high-performance buildings by developing detailed energy models for residential and commercial projects. This contract, hybrid role is based in Houston, TX, with a mix of on-site work and work-from-home flexibility. Day-to-day responsibilities include creating and calibrating energy models, analyzing building systems, and preparing reports that inform design decisions, code compliance, and green building certifications such as LEED and Energy Star. The Energy Modeller will collaborate with project managers, owners, and construction teams to review plans, verify assumptions, and recommend energy-efficient strategies that align with project budgets and sustainability goals. Additional tasks may involve supporting energy audits, assisting with commissioning activities, and participating in field inspections to validate model inputs and performance outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Energy analysis and modeling skills, including proficiency with building energy simulation tools and understanding of building envelope and HVAC performance.
  • Experience with green building and certification programs such as LEED, Energy Star, and state or utility-administered efficiency programs.
  • Knowledge of building codes and standards, with exposure to ICC, ASHRAE guidelines, and local energy code requirements.
  • Field-based skills such as energy construction inspections, duct leakage testing, air or smoke infiltration testing, and basic commissioning support.
  • Project management capabilities, including project due diligence, coordinating with owners and construction teams, and managing documentation and timelines.
  • Strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail and accuracy in modeling and reporting.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical findings to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, building science, or a related field; relevant professional certifications (e.g., LEED, RESNET HERS, CEM) are an advantage.
