We are looking for: Supplier Quality Engineer
We are seeking a Supplier Quality Engineer (SQE) to own supplier performance, qualification, and corrective action activities for our electronics manufacturing facility. This role is the primary link between our supply base and our automotive OEM customer requirements, ensuring incoming components and subassemblies meet quality, reliability, and compliance standards before they ever reach the production line. The ideal candidate has strong automotive core-tools experience and is comfortable driving accountability with external suppliers.
Key responsibilities:
Supplier Qualification & Audits
- Lead supplier qualification and requalification activities, including on-site audits using VDA 6.3 process audit methodology
- Review and approve supplier PPAP submissions across all applicable levels
- Assess supplier manufacturing processes, control plans, and PFMEAs for adequacy and risk
- Support new supplier onboarding and sourcing decisions from a quality risk perspective
Incoming Quality & Component Compliance
- Establish and maintain incoming inspection criteria, sampling plans, and acceptance standards for purchased components and subassemblies
- Review component qualification data against AEC-Q100/AEC-Q200 standards for automotive-grade parts
- Partner with engineering to assess supplier-driven design or process changes (PCNs) for quality impact
- Monitor incoming defect trends and drive containment at the supplier source
Supplier Corrective Action & Performance Management
- Issue and manage Supplier Corrective Action Requests (SCARs); drive 8D and root cause analysis with suppliers
- Own supplier scorecards, quality performance metrics (DPPM, on-time PPAP, audit scores), and business reviews
- Escalate chronic or high-risk supplier issues and lead containment, sorting, or re-qualification efforts
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives with suppliers using Six Sigma and Lean methodologies
Systems & Customer Compliance
- Ensure supplier quality processes align with IATF 16949, ISO 9001, and applicable automotive OEM customer-specific requirements
- Maintain supplier quality records to support internal, customer, and third-party audits
- Support APQP timing and deliverables as they relate to supplier readiness
Required qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Industrial, Mechanical) or equivalent experience
- 3 years of supplier quality or quality engineering experience in electronics manufacturing (EMS/contract manufacturing or automotive electronics preferred)
- Demonstrated experience with IATF 16949, ISO 9001, and VDA 6.3 process auditing
- Proficient in core tools: APQP, PPAP, FMEA (AIAG-VDA methodology), Control Plans, MSA, SPC
- Strong background in 8D, root cause analysis, and Six Sigma (Green Belt or higher preferred)
- Working knowledge of IPC-A-610 and J-STD-001 as they apply to electronic assemblies/components
- Comfortable conducting supplier audits and holding suppliers accountable to schedule and quality commitments
- Excellent negotiation, analytical, and cross-functional communication skills
- Willingness and ability to travel to supplier sites (domestic and/or international, as required)
Preferred qualifications
- Certified VDA 6.3 Process Auditor
- Familiarity with AEC-Q100/AEC-Q200 component qualification standards
- Exposure to ISO 26262 (Functional Safety) supplier requirements
- Six Sigma Black Belt certification
- Experience supporting automotive OEM customer audits and scorecards
Physical/Work Environment
- Office and manufacturing floor environment; ability to move throughout production and receiving areas
- Regular travel to supplier sites for audits, qualification activities, and corrective action reviews
