Company Description Eagle Valley Children’s Home is a long-standing nonprofit organization serving children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in the Reno-Carson region. For over 80 years, the home has provided compassionate care and support to individuals and their families, offering both Residential and Respite Programs. As Nevada’s only Intermediate Care Facility (ICF) for people with disabilities, the organization delivers individualized services that range from daily living support to specialized medical, physical, and behavioral care. The Respite Program offers trusted, short-term care so family caregivers can rest, recharge, and tend to their own well-being. Role Description The Respite Worker is a full-time, remote role responsible for providing planned, short-term care and support to children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Day-to-day tasks include supervising individuals during respite periods, assisting with daily living activities, and following individualized care plans to promote safety, comfort, and engagement. The Respite Worker communicates regularly with families and team members to understand care needs, provide updates, and ensure continuity of care. This role also involves documenting services, observing and reporting changes in behavior or health, and using virtual tools or coordinated in-home resources to deliver high-quality respite support. The Respite Worker contributes to a supportive environment that honors each individual’s dignity and fosters meaningful participation in daily life.

Qualifications

• Experience in respite care and supporting caregivers, with the ability to provide safe, reliable relief for families.
• Knowledge of intellectual and developmental disabilities, including understanding behavioral, physical, and emotional support needs.
• Background in working with children and adults in home care or community-based settings, with a focus on person-centered support.
• Strong communication skills, including clear verbal and written communication, active listening, and collaborative teamwork.
• Ability to work effectively in a remote environment, including use of digital tools for documentation and family communication.
• Demonstrated empathy, patience, and cultural sensitivity when working with individuals and families from diverse backgrounds.
• Basic first aid and CPR certification or willingness to obtain; prior experience in healthcare, social services, or human services is beneficial.
• High school diploma or equivalent required; additional training or education in social work, psychology, special education, or related fields is a plus.
