Psychosocial Rehabilitation & Life Skills Educator — QP Development Track

Bachelor’s Degree Required

Help Adults Build Skills, Confidence, Independence, and a Better Life

Eagle Healthcare Services is seeking compassionate, articulate, educated professionals to join our Psychosocial Rehabilitation (PSR) program.

We are intentionally looking beyond the traditional behavioral-health workforce.

Some of our strongest future team members may currently be working in:

  • Special Education
  • Exceptional Children programs
  • Behavioral support
  • Psychology
  • Social Work
  • Counseling
  • Human Services
  • Therapeutic Recreation
  • Rehabilitation
  • Autism services
  • Education
  • Student support
  • Youth development
  • Community-based programs

If you are patient, encouraging, professional, emotionally intelligent, and naturally good at helping people learn and grow, we want to meet you.

Experience working with children is welcome. The individuals we serve at Eagle are adults, but many of the skills developed by exceptional educators and special-needs professionals — patience, communication, redirection, encouragement, structure, creativity, and individualized support — translate extremely well into psychosocial rehabilitation.

The Person We Are Looking For

Think about the teacher, counselor, mentor, or professional who made people feel comfortable, respected, and capable.

Someone who could correct behavior without humiliating anyone.

Someone who remained calm when another person became frustrated.

Someone who communicated clearly and respectfully.

Someone who recognized strengths instead of focusing only on limitations.

Someone people genuinely enjoyed being around.

That is the type of professional we want at Eagle.

Our consumers are adults and must always be treated as adults.

We expect every staff member to communicate with consumers with respect, dignity, patience, and professionalism at all times.

What Is Psychosocial Rehabilitation?

Psychosocial Rehabilitation helps adults living with serious mental-health conditions improve their ability to function successfully in their homes, communities, relationships, and everyday lives.

Rather than simply supervising consumers, Eagle PSR staff actively help individuals develop practical skills that increase independence, confidence, stability, and quality of life.

What You Will Do

As a Psychosocial Rehabilitation & Life Skills Educator, you will work directly with adults participating in Eagle's PSR program.

You may teach, facilitate, coach, or assist with areas including:

  • Independent living skills
  • Communication skills
  • Social skills
  • Coping strategies
  • Emotional regulation
  • Goal setting
  • Problem solving
  • Community integration
  • Employment readiness
  • Computer and technology skills
  • Financial literacy and budgeting
  • Healthy relationships
  • Personal wellness
  • Nutrition
  • Cooking and meal preparation
  • Recreation and fitness
  • Arts and creative activities
  • Music
  • Educational activities
  • Personal organization
  • Time management
  • Self-advocacy
  • Recovery-oriented skills
  • Daily routines and healthy habits

You will also:

  • Facilitate individual and group PSR activities
  • Build positive professional relationships with consumers
  • Encourage consumer participation and independence
  • Redirect inappropriate behavior calmly and respectfully
  • Assist consumers with developing and pursuing individualized goals
  • Observe changes in consumer functioning or behavior
  • Communicate concerns appropriately to clinical leadership
  • Complete accurate service documentation
  • Follow consumer treatment plans and program guidelines
  • Participate in staff meetings, supervision, and professional development
  • Maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality
  • Help create a welcoming, engaging, adult-centered PSR environment

QP Development Track

Eagle Healthcare Services wants to develop its future Qualified Professionals (QPs) internally.

Candidates who possess a qualifying bachelor's degree but have not yet accumulated the experience required to meet North Carolina QP standards may be hired into a supervised developmental role.

Under current North Carolina requirements, a graduate with a bachelor's degree in a human-services field generally needs two years of full-time, post-bachelor's MH/DD/SU experience with the population served to meet the experience component of QP status. Employees who have not yet reached that experience threshold may work under appropriate Qualified Professional supervision while building qualifying experience.

Our goal is to create a career pathway such as:

Psychosocial Rehabilitation & Life Skills Educator → Qualified Professional → Senior QP / Program Leadership

QP eligibility ultimately depends upon the employee's education, qualifying experience, population served, applicable North Carolina regulations, and Eagle's credentialing review.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must have:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Degree in a human-service or closely related field appropriate to the position
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Professional demeanor
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Patience and emotional maturity
  • Ability to communicate respectfully with adults experiencing mental-health challenges
  • Ability to lead and participate in group activities
  • Ability to accept supervision and feedback
  • Valid driver's license
  • Clean driving record
  • Reliable transportation
  • Ability to successfully complete required background, registry, and employment screenings

Degrees We Especially Want

We strongly encourage applicants with bachelor's degrees in areas such as:

  • Special Education
  • Psychology
  • Social Work
  • Human Services
  • Counseling
  • Rehabilitation
  • Therapeutic Recreation
  • Behavioral Science
  • Child Development
  • Family Studies
  • Sociology
  • Education
  • Exceptional Children
  • Developmental Disabilities
  • Other relevant human-services disciplines

Experience We Especially Value

We are particularly interested in candidates who have worked as:

  • Special Education Teachers
  • Exceptional Children Teachers
  • Special Education Assistants
  • Behavioral Specialists
  • Autism Support Professionals
  • School Counselors
  • Student Support Specialists
  • Behavioral Technicians
  • Intervention Specialists
  • Case Managers
  • Social Workers
  • Residential Counselors
  • Community Support Professionals
  • Youth Program Professionals
  • Mental Health Professionals
  • Direct Support Professionals
  • Therapeutic Recreation Professionals

Your experience does not have to be exclusively with adults.

If you have successfully worked with children, adolescents, or adults who required patience, individualized instruction, behavioral support, encouragement, or additional structure, we encourage you to apply.

What Matters Most to Us

We can teach policies.

We can teach documentation.

We can teach the Eagle PSR program.

What is much harder to teach is how to genuinely treat another human being.

We are looking for people who naturally demonstrate:

  • Kindness
  • Patience
  • Professionalism
  • Emotional intelligence
  • Respect
  • Accountability
  • Optimism
  • Good judgment
  • Clear communication
  • Dependability

This Position Is NOT a Good Fit If You:

  • Regularly become frustrated with people who need repeated instruction
  • Speak harshly or disrespectfully when someone is difficult
  • Talk down to adults
  • Prefer to sit rather than actively engage consumers
  • Are uncomfortable facilitating activities or discussions
  • Believe direct-care work is primarily supervision
  • Have difficulty accepting feedback
  • Frequently bring personal conflict or negativity into the workplace

Eagle PSR is building a culture where consumers should feel welcomed, respected, encouraged, engaged, and safe.

Why Join Eagle?
