SUMMARY OF JOB DESCRIPTION:
Prepares and cooks the food in appropriate quantities according to the School Lunch menu and serve students in an efficient manner.

ESSENTIAL JOB ELEMENTS: 

  • Maintain a high standard of sanitation in all practices at work, including food handling and storage, according to department policy and state and local health department manuals.
  • Maintain a healthy and attractive kitchen and lunch room environment (maintain clean kitchen, sweep, mop, trash removal etc.).
  • Measure, weigh and combine ingredients for quality preparation of soups, entrees, casseroles, vegetables, desserts, meats and other items indicated on school lunch program menu, using established recipes approved by Colorado Department of Education and USDA.
  • Take the food temperatures in order to determine if the temperatures have reached the established minimum microbiological safe internal temperatures.
  • Ensure the menu is in compliance with the directives from the Nutritional Services Director and Colorado Department of Education.
  • Regulate portions consistent with standards/directives set by the National School Lunch Program.
  • Organize work and plan daily production schedules to ensure food is ready for service at the designated times without waste especially in the absence of the cafeteria manager.
  • Operate the computerized cashiering point-of-sale system in the absence of the cafeteria manager.
    Make recipe adjustments, with assistance, while maintaining quality.
  • Participate in collecting accurate data in compliance with the National School Lunch Program and/or requested by the Food Service Director/Board of Education, (i.e. – menu worksheets, meal counts.
  • Meet the demands of the food service operation with a flexible work schedule and location.
  • Operate clean and maintain a variety of manual and/or automated kitchen equipment such as ovens, grills, toasters, food processors, slicers, dishwashers and steamers.
  • Lift and carry boxes to appropriate shelves when the orders come in. We get two weeks of orders in at a time.
  • Must have the ability to be cost effective with the use of supplies/products and serving containers. (Things such as plastic and trash bags, paper and plastic containers).
  • Wash, dry, fold and put away soiled towels and aprons.
  • Ability to multi-task under serious time constraints.
  • Acts friendly and tactful to all customers (students, teachers, parents and co-workers) in all situations of communication on a consistent basis.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • 6 months experience working with large quantities of food.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to read, write, understand and follow written and verbal calculations as normally acquired through completion of high school diploma/GED.

ELEMENTOS ESENCIALES DEL TRABAJO:

  • Mantener un alto estándar de saneamiento en todas las prácticas en el trabajo, incluida la manipulación y el almacenamiento de alimentos, de acuerdo con la política del departamento y los manuales de los departamentos de salud estatales y locales.
  • Mantener un ambiente saludable y atractivo en la cocina y el comedor (mantener la cocina limpia, barrer, trapear, retirar basura, etc.).
  • Mida, pesa y combina ingredientes para una preparación de calidad de sopas, platos principales, guisos, verduras, postres, carnes y otros artículos indicados en el menú del programa de almuerzo escolar, utilizando recetas establecidas aprobadas por el Departamento de Educación de Colorado y el USDA.
  • Tome las temperaturas de los alimentos para determinar si han alcanzado las temperaturas internas mínimas microbiológicas establecidas.
  • Asegúrese de que el menú cumpla con las directivas del Director de Servicios Nutricionales y del Departamento de Educación de Colorado.
  • Regular las porciones de acuerdo con los estándares/directivas establecidos por el Programa Nacional de Almuerzos Escolares.
  • Organizar el trabajo y planificar los horarios de producción diarios para garantizar que los alimentos estén listos para servir en los horarios designados sin desperdicios, especialmente en ausencia del encargado de la cafetería.

  • Participar en la recopilación de datos precisos de conformidad con el Programa Nacional de Almuerzos Escolares y/o solicitado por el Director de Servicios de Alimentos/Junta de Educación (es decir, hojas de trabajo de menús, recuentos de comidas).
  • Satisfacer las demandas del servicio de alimentos con un horario y ubicación flexibles.
  • Operar, limpiar y mantener diversos equipos de cocina manuales y/o automatizados, como hornos, parrillas, tostadoras, procesadores de alimentos, rebanadoras, lavavajillas y vaporeras.
  • Levantar y transportar cajas a los estantes correspondientes cuando llegan los pedidos. Recibimos pedidos para dos semanas a la vez.
  • Debe tener la capacidad de ser rentable con el uso de suministros/productos y recipientes para servir (cosas como bolsas de plástico y de basura, recipientes de papel y plástico).
  • Lavar, secar, doblar y guardar las toallas y delantales sucios.
  • Capacidad para realizar múltiples tareas con un tiempo limitado.
  • Actúa de manera amigable y diplomática con todos los clientes (estudiantes, maestros, padres y compañeros de trabajo) en todas las situaciones de comunicación de manera constante.

  • Capacidad para leer, escribir, comprender y realizar cálculos escritos y verbales, como se adquiere normalmente al completar el diploma de bachillerato/GED.
  • Capacidad para operar una computadora.
