SUMMARY OF JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Restorative Practices Counselor provides comprehensive, school based mental health, drug and alcohol assessment, intervention, and restorative support services to students in need at Battle Mountain High School and Eagle Valley High School.  The counselor utilizes restorative practices to foster positive relationships, facilitate restorative conversations and circles, address the root causes of behavior, promote accountability, repair harm, and support student success through meaningful reengagement in learning.

The Restorative Practices Counselor responds to referrals from school personnel, assesses level of need, and delivers appropriate interventions. Responsibilities include conducting diagnostic assessments, developing treatment goals, and providing individual and group counseling,family support, as well as case management services. The counselor utilizes evidence-based practices to address a range of emotional, behavioral, and social needs. Counselors collaborate closely with school staff, families, and community partners to support student well-being and academic success.

In addition to direct clinical services, the counselor participates in school-based meetings as appropriate, contributes to multidisciplinary teams, and supports the implementation of school-wide mental health initiatives. The counselor must maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation and adheres to all ethical, legal, and district standards.

All services are provided on school grounds at no cost to students or families, reducing barriers to care and ensuring timely access to mental health support.

ESSENTIAL JOB ELEMENTS: 

• Maintains a consistent on campus presence during assigned school hours to provide crisis response, individual and group counseling, classroom support, restorative interventions, including restorative circles and conferences, and consultation with school staff.
• Conducts comprehensive mental health, behavioral, and substance use assessments to determine the nature and severity of student needs, identify appropriate levels of care, develop intervention plans, and initiate referrals and restorative responses as appropriate.
• Provides individual and group counseling services using evidence based and restorative practices, monitors student progress, facilitates restorative agreements, and adjusts treatment plans to support student success and reintegration into the school community.
• Collaborates and consults with school counselors, Restorative Practices staff, administrators, families, community partners, and multidisciplinary teams to coordinate wraparound services, case planning, safety planning, and treatment interventions.
• Coordinates care with external agencies, including emergency medical services, child protective services, law enforcement, and community providers, to ensure student safety, continuity of care, accountability, and successful transitions between services.
• Connects students and families with appropriate resources, referrals, restorative supports, and community services, providing ongoing follow up to promote engagement and continuity of care.
• Participates as a member of district and school based crisis response teams, supporting crisis prevention, intervention, recovery, restorative responses, and student reentry following behavioral or mental health incidents.
• Obtains informed consent, maintains required documentation, safeguards confidentiality, and adheres to ethical, legal, and professional standards of practice.
• Completes accurate, timely clinical documentation, including assessments, treatment plans, counseling services, restorative interventions, and required reports, in compliance with district, agency, and regulatory requirements.
• Attends required staff meetings, Restorative Practices team meetings, clinical supervision, professional learning, and other meetings necessary to support program implementation and continuous improvement.
• Adheres to all Eagle County School District policies, procedures, and professional standards to ensure the effective integration of clinical services and restorative practices.

Knowledge & Skills to:

• Demonstrated knowledge of DSM 5 TR diagnoses, symptom presentation, evidence based treatment modalities.
• Knowledge of Drug and Alcohol treatment and support 
• Understanding of the integration of restorative interventions to address substance use, repair relationships, and support positive behavior change.
• Strong understanding of local and agency resources to support referrals, coordination of wraparound services, and collaboration with restorative practices staff, families, schools, and community partners.
• Expertise in assessing suicidality, self harm risk, and implementing appropriate crisis intervention strategies while utilizing restorative approaches when appropriate to support student reentry, healing, and relationship restoration following a crisis.
• Ability to build rapport and effectively engage with diverse student populations, including individuals from varied cultural, socioeconomic, and neurodiverse backgrounds, using restorative, relationship centered practices that foster trust, belonging, and student voice.
• Proficiency in computer systems, including electronic health records (EHR), and data management systems for accurate documentation and reporting, including documentation of restorative interventions, restorative agreements, student progress, and program outcomes as appropriate.

• Establish priorities, work independently, and proceed with objectives without direct supervision 
• Maintain boundaries with clients, practitioners and other agencies 
• Maintain composure, professionalism, and structure in any given situation 
• Uphold confidentiality at all times and adhere to the minimum necessary rule whenever data is shared 
• Maintain communication with clinical and school based staff on a regular basis 
• Identify, address, and resolve challenges in a timely and effective manner.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Master's degree in counseling, psychology, social work or related field 
• Current authorization or license issued by the State of Colorado indicating s/he is properly endorsed or s/he must meet the qualifications criteria under NCA.
• Preferred experience working in school-based settings, outpatient clinics, or community mental health 
• Training in crisis and trauma is preferred. 
• Preferred Bilingual in English/Spanish
