What are the responsibilities and job description for the Spring Engineering Intern position at E2i Inc.?
E2i is seeking an Engineering Intern to work with our RTP Engineering Team in Durham, NC. This position reports to the Engineering Manager. This position requires working 10-20 hours per week during the spring semester.
This is not a remote work opportunity. All work is anticipated to be done onsite in our RTP office.
Location & Travel:
- Primary Location: Raleigh/Durham, North Carolina
- Up to 10% Travel: Occasional travel to E2i’s clients for hands-on experiences to enhance learning and technical growth.
As an Engineering Intern, a typical day might include the following:
- Develop understanding of Control System Validation and Process Automation through training, hands-on experience, and mentoring from technical and engineering staff
- Develop understanding and skill to fabricate and wire control and electrical panels for internal and external clients, adhering to company policies and standard operating procedures
- Develop the ability to read and understand drawings, schematics, and specifications; provide design review through training and mentoring
- Assist in the development of project management scope, schedule, budget, and resource balancing
- Develop skills to perform on-premises or on-site testing of electrical and control panels to ensure 100% accuracy in wiring and proper operation
- Learn and practice proper safety standards throughout the facility
- Develop and maintain good communication with supervisors, designers, engineers, suppliers, and customers

- Self-starter with initiative to come up to speed quickly and meet deadlines
- Ability to work well under pressure while maintaining strong attention to detail
- Good organizational and time management skills
- Good communication skills (verbal and written)
- Able to act positively and professionally when interacting with supervisors, peers, clients, and vendors
What you need for this position:
- At least a sophomore working toward a bachelor’s degree in engineering or technology
- Able to work at least 8 hours per week in 4-hour blocks.
- Capable of lifting 50 pounds
- Eagerness to learn and develop your own skills and engineering technologies.
- Additional capabilities that would enhance your value for the position:
- Previous general work experience
- Previous technical, automation, or engineering experience
- Skills with equipment, hand/power tools
- Ability to read drawings/schematics
