Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Signal Installation Technician

E-Z Bel Construction, LLC
San Antonio, TX Full Time
POSTED ON 8/27/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 9/25/2026
Make Every Intersection Safer

Picture your day starting before the streets get busy. You review the engineered layout, gear up, and head to the site. From the bucket of an aerial lift, you set a new signal head perfectly in line with the traffic lanes below. In the cabinet, your wiring is clean and labeled. By late afternoon, testing confirms strong continuity and reliable detection. That intersection now runs smoother—and the city moves a little safer—because of your work.

About The Role

As an ITS Signal Installation Technician, you will assemble, wire, and install signal systems, pedestrian push buttons, detection devices, and related components according to engineered plans. You’ll work with both overhead and underground wiring, run bucket trucks and aerial lifts, and deliver installations that meet MUTCD, OSHA, and project specifications. The work is outdoors in all conditions and calls for technical expertise, endurance, and rigorous electrical and aerial safety practices.

What You'll Tackle

  • Interpret intersection layouts, engineered schematics, and overhead signal plans to guide installation.
  • Install and wire signal heads, pedestrian push buttons, and detection devices to match project requirements.
  • Pull, route, and splice overhead and underground conductors through conduit systems with correct color coding and terminations.
  • Assemble and set signal poles, mast arms, and brackets using proper hardware, torque values, and rigging methods.
  • Install and configure detection systems, controllers, cabinets, and battery backup units for continuous operation.
  • Operate bucket trucks and aerial lifts to position and align signals for optimal orientation and visibility.
  • Conduct voltage, continuity, and signal testing with multimeters and other diagnostic tools.
  • Adhere to MUTCD, OSHA, and company standards for aerial work, electrical safety, and traffic control.
  • Keep cabinet, junction box, and pole wiring neat, labeled, and organized.
  • Support material staging, inventory tracking, and the loading/unloading of poles, arms, and cabinets.
  • Document installations, inspections, and adjustments in project logs or digital platforms.
  • Immediately flag layout discrepancies, material needs, or safety concerns to the Foreman or Leadman.
  • Perform traffic control and flagging to protect crews, equipment, and the traveling public.
  • Handle other related duties as assigned.

What You Bring

  • 1–5 years in traffic signal installation, electrical work, or a related construction trade.
  • Skill in reading construction drawings, electrical schematics, and riser diagrams.
  • Knowledge of MUTCD, OSHA, and TxDOT signal installation standards (preferred).
  • Proficiency with bucket trucks, aerial lifts, and basic rigging—always used safely.
  • Comfort with hand tools, power tools, and electrical test equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to work confidently at heights.
  • Consistent use of safety protocols, including PPE, aerial safety, and electrical hazard prevention.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to operate company vehicles and maintain insurable driving status.

Physical Realities of the Job

You’ll work outside all year in heat, cold, rain, and other harsh conditions. Expect frequent standing, climbing, bending, and kneeling for extended periods. You’ll regularly lift and carry up to 50 lbs., and occasionally up to 100 lbs. with assistance when handling poles, mast arms, equipment, and materials. You must tolerate dust, noise, vibration, and working at height from bucket trucks or aerial lifts.

Rewards & Benefits

  • Competitive medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Voluntary life, accident, critical illness, and pet insurance
  • 401(k) retirement plan
  • Quarterly bonus
  • PTO and paid holidays
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and wellness resources
  • Tuition reimbursement and continuing education support
  • Scholarship program for dependents of eligible employees
