Job Description:
The Generator Service Technician role is a skilled and detail-oriented team member that helps with maintaining our clients' backup generators. This position requires a background in electrical systems and mechanical maintenance, with specific expertise in the maintenance and repair of generators. This role plays a crucial part in ensuring the reliability and optimal performance of power generation systems for our clients.
Key Responsibilities (Depending on Level)
All levels:
- Observe all safety procedures and use equipment properly
- Maintain company vehicle and tools
- Create a positive customer experience
- Document and address customer concerns
- Manage customer expectations
- Maintain a clean work environment and facility
- Provide accurate time and cost estimates to customers
- Track service hours
- Attend team meetings and report on projects
- Perform Preventative Maintenances on Backup Generators
- Change spark plugs, battery, air filter, oil, and oil filters
Technician I - Entry-Level
- Assist in the maintenance, repair, and installation of generators and related equipment.
- Support senior technicians with routine service task and diagnostics.
- Learn to follow service procedures, safety standards, and company protocols.
- Help ensure proper system functionality and reliability.
Technician II - Intermediate
- Perform scheduled maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on generator systems.
- Troubleshoot service issues with increasing independence.
- Ensure all work meets safety, quality, and compliance requirements.
- Deliver professional, customer-focused service.
Technician III - Advanced
- Conduct advanced troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of generator systems.
- Diagnose complex electrical and mechanical issues with minimal supervision.
- Work independently or collaboratively as part of the service team.
- Demonstrate strong technical judgment and commitment to safety and excellence.
Technician IV - Senior / Lead
- Perform expert-level diagnostics, repairs, and installations of standby power systems, including diesel, natural gas, and bi-fuel generators.
- Manage complex service projects and operate with full autonomy in the field.
- Provide mentorship, guidance, and leadership to junior technicians.
- Ensure adherence to the highest standards of safety, compliance, and technical quality.
Qualifications (Level-Dependent)
All Levels:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems.
- Valid driver's license and commitment to safety
- Ability to work in the field environments and handle physical demands of the job.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Customer service-oriented with good communication skills.
Level-Specific Expectations:
- Tech I: Basic mechanical aptitude; willingness to learn and follow direction
- Tech II: Prior experience with generator service or similar equipment: proven troubleshooting ability
- Tech III: Extensive generator service knowledge; strong independent diagnostic skills
- Tech IV: Senior- level expertise with standby power systems; leadership and mentoring capabilities
