Job Type: Full-time, hourly

Pay: The listed pay range varies based on relevant pump experience and technical skills.

Position Overview

The Pump Technician II is an intermediate-level position responsible for independently inspecting, diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing pumps and related equipment. This role requires strong troubleshooting abilities involving centrifugal pump systems, electrical components, priming systems, and pump trailers.

The Pump Technician II works in both shop and field environments, regularly traveling to customer sites to install, troubleshoot, and repair equipment. This position also supports the development of Pump Technician I employees by sharing technical knowledge and assisting with hands-on training.

Work Schedule and Travel

• Must be available to work assigned shifts
• Overtime and weekend work may be required
• Participation in the after-hours on-call rotation is required
• A company phone is provided for emergency calls
• Regular travel to customer job sites is required
• Company tools, vehicles, and other necessary resources are provided for authorized work

Key Responsibilities

• Pump Inspection, Maintenance, and Repair
• Independently perform complete inspections of pumps, excluding specialty pump equipment.
• Diagnose and repair pump ends, priming systems, and related components.
• Diagnose and repair electrical systems, including starters, alternators, and wiring.
• Troubleshoot centrifugal pump performance using pump curves.
• Perform preventive and predictive maintenance according to company and manufacturer requirements.
• Assemble equipment according to manufacturer specifications.
• Test equipment to confirm it meets manufacturer performance specifications.
• Conduct pressure and hydrostatic testing when required.
• Complete accurate and timely service reports and other required documentation.

Trailer Inspection and Repair

• Diagnose and repair pump trailer issues.
• Inspect and service wheels, tires, bearings, wiring, and other trailer components.
• Confirm trailers and mounted equipment are safe and ready for use.

Field Service and Customer Support

• Travel to customer locations to install, troubleshoot, service, and repair pumps.
• Set up suction and discharge systems properly and safely.
• Provide professional technical support at customer job sites.
• Communicate clearly with customers, coworkers, and management.
• Complete field repairs efficiently while maintaining a strong focus on customer satisfaction.

Safety and Compliance

• Actively support and participate in the company’s safety culture.
• Follow Lockout/Tagout procedures and all other required safety practices.
• Identify and address job-site risks using proper cribbing, spill protection, barriers, and other safety controls.
• Perform all responsibilities safely, efficiently, and effectively.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workspace.
• Ensure tools, equipment, and required paperwork are maintained properly.

Training and Team Support

• Assist with the training and mentoring of Pump Technician I employees.
• Share technical knowledge and promote safe work practices.
• Participate in ongoing training and continuous improvement activities.
• Assist other technicians with repairs and troubleshooting as needed.
• Help maintain appropriate stock levels and identify consumable items that need to be ordered.

Qualifications and Experience

• Previous pump repair, maintenance, or related mechanical experience is strongly preferred.
• Ability to independently inspect, diagnose, and repair centrifugal pump systems.
• Experience troubleshooting pump ends, priming systems, and electrical components.
• Ability to interpret and use pump curves for troubleshooting.
• Experience diagnosing and repairing pump trailer components.
• Pipe Fusion training must be completed or obtained as required for the position.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
• Basic computer literacy and the ability to complete electronic service records.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Must be at least 21 years old.
• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment background check.
• Strong work ethic with a safety-focused and customer-service-oriented approach.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Flexibility to work overtime, weekends, and emergency call-ins when required.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift and move equipment weighing up to 100 pounds.
• Ability to perform physically strenuous work in shop and outdoor field environments.
• Ability to bend, kneel, climb, stand, and work around industrial equipment.
• Ability to work in varying weather and job-site conditions.

Pump Technician II employees apply independent repair and advanced troubleshooting skills while helping develop less-experienced technicians. Successful performance and continued technical development may prepare employees for advancement to Pump Technician III, which includes complex diagnostics, increased leadership responsibilities, and greater involvement in mentoring junior technicians.

Due to the safety-sensitive nature of this position, pump employees must successfully complete a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening and are subject to random testing.

Pay: $24.00 - $28.00 per hour
