E-ONE manufactures custom and commercial fire trucks including pumpers and tankers, aerial ladders and platforms, rescues of all sizes, quick attack units, industrial trucks, and ARFF (aircraft rescue firefighting vehicles).

SCOPE: As a Controls Engineer at E-ONE you will be responsible for developing world-class, robust engineering solutions to the Fire Apparatus industry, including the design and development of systems installed on Fire Trucks that save lives all around the world. The Engineer is responsible for all stages of a product, from research and development, through design, test & evaluation, manufacturing, to aftermarket care and warranty support. The Engineer at E-ONE is a subject matter expert and is relied upon by other employees and customers for technical guidance and support.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


  • Product Specification Development:
  • Participation in customer specification reviews and product planning meetings, initiating innovative solutions that meet customer, regulatory and company requirements.
  • Conducting research and analysis of customer design proposals, specifications, manuals, and other data to evaluate the feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements of designs or applications.
  • Finalizing design requirements and system interface management and releasing engineering packages to Supply Chain and Operations. Responsible for initiating and leading detailed design reviews with cross-functional disciplines.
  • Design, Design Verification and Validation:
  • Developing plans to ensure compliance with regulatory standards, adopted engineering standards, and good engineering practices. Reviewing and critiquing proposed changes to engineering standards, policies, or details.
  • Applying Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles to enable ergonomic and efficient manufacturing.
  • Fulfilling customer requirements during design activities. Considering design rules and all applicable interface points.
  • Creation of 3D models and drawings to be used to manufacture components.
  • Verifying designs through use of calculations & other analytical techniques and tools. Assisting designers in development of structurally sound products, using drafting tools or computer-assisted design/drafting and analysis tools.
  • Defining of test requirements and interpreting test results to validate designs.
  • Holding cross-functional design reviews as appropriate to solicit input to deliver a robust design that is producible, avoiding interferences and meeting all industry and company requirements.
  • Creating and managing indented Bills of Materials (BOMs), in adherence to company standards. Creating and using engineering configuration tools and design automation for creating accurate and compliant designs.
  • Defining, leading, and executing cost saving projects through VA/VE initiatives.
  • Executing engineering changes through established processes and documentation.
  • Manufacturing and customer support:
  • Providing support during manufacturing to ensure quality and schedule commitments are met.
  • Utilizing problem solving techniques to determine root cause and resolution to technical problems. Methodologies include Six Sigma, 8D, 5-Why techniques.
  • Utilizing lean manufacturing principles to ensure efficient production.


OTHER DUTIES MAY INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:


Ad-hoc production line or customer support as needed to maintain operational flow or resolve specific customer problems. Senior level positions may require leadership and/or supervision of a small group or department of other engineers or designers. Developing Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and providing guidance to others to ensure compliance with applicable regulatory standards – NFPA, DOT, FMVSS, CMVSS, ULC etc. Ability to mentor team members on design principles, regulatory standards etc.


TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:


  • PTC CREO parametric 3D and/or AutoCAD
  • Windchill PDM/PLM
  • PTC CREO Finite Element Analysis software
  • Zuken or other harness/PCB design software
  • Microsoft Office, SharePoint, PowerBI
  • ERP systems for parts release: BAAN, Microsoft Dynamics365
  • Design automation software e.g. RuleStream or DriveWorks.
  • CoDeSys 3.5 & 2.3
  • PowerVision
  • Peak System CAN Analyzer


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:


  • Bachelor’s degree in one of the following fields: Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering or Systems Engineering.
  • 1 years or more of practical experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in CAD systems – CREO and/or Auto CAD.
  • Must have detailed knowledge of manufacturing processes, especially Automotive or Commercial Trucks manufacturing, with emphasis on circuit and electrical diagnosis.
  • Must have exposure to electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic routines related to the manufacture and design of emergency vehicles or mobile equipment.
  • Thorough understanding of design and drafting techniques, manufacturing processes, lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, DFMA processes and Brainstorming techniques.
  • Will need a thorough understanding of FMVH, SAE, NEC, NESC, NFPA, FAA, FMVSS, ICAO standards and ISO guidelines.
  • Must be proficient in Harness and Electrical Circuits Design Software like Zuken, VeSys, Capital Harness Designer etc.
  • Must be proficient in Automotive CAN-Communication Networks principles, multiplexing technology, and programming.
  • Thorough understanding of circuit boards, processors, chips, and electronic test equipment (Oscilloscope, etc.).


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:


While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.
