The Safety Manager is a full-time, on-site role based in Michigan, responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing safety programs across construction projects. This role conducts regular site inspections, audits, and hazard assessments to ensure compliance with company policies, OSHA regulations, and other applicable safety standards. The Safety Manager leads incident investigations, tracks corrective actions, and maintains accurate safety documentation and reporting. Day-to-day tasks include delivering safety training and toolbox talks, coaching field teams and subcontractors on best practices, and collaborating with project managers and superintendents to integrate safety into planning and execution. The Safety Manager also participates in pre-construction meetings, reviews job-specific safety plans, monitors use of personal protective equipment, and supports continuous improvement of the company’s safety culture.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience in construction safety management, including field safety oversight on commercial or industrial projects.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA standards, MIOSHA regulations, and relevant federal, state, and local safety requirements.
- Ability to conduct site inspections, job hazard analyses, risk assessments, and incident investigations with clear documentation.
- Proficient in developing and delivering safety training, toolbox talks, and safety orientation for diverse field teams and subcontractors.
- Skilled in creating and maintaining safety programs, policies, procedures, and site-specific safety plans.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with project managers, superintendents, and trade partners.
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities, including prioritizing multiple projects and deadlines.
- Comfort with using digital tools for reporting, recordkeeping, and data analysis related to safety performance.
- Relevant professional certifications such as OSHA 30-Hour (Construction), CHST, CSP, or equivalent are preferred.
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, Engineering, or related.
