Job Title: Chief Engineer / Assistant Chief Engineer
Location: Ketchikan, AK / Petersburg, AK
Position Overview
The Chief Engineer will be responsible for supporting, maintaining, and improving the reliability, safety, and efficiency of equipment and processes within our food processing facility. This role requires strong technical knowledge, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work cross-functionally with production, maintenance, quality, and safety teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee daily plant engineering activities to ensure smooth operations.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and process issues to minimize downtime.
- Support and implement preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
- Lead projects to improve equipment reliability, efficiency, and food safety compliance.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (FDA, USDA, OSHA, HACCP, GMP).
- Collaborate with production and quality teams to optimize processes and improve yield.
- Manage capital projects, from design to installation and commissioning.
- Prepare technical reports, equipment documentation, and SOPs.
- Provide training and technical support to plant staff.
Qualifications
- 3–5 years of engineering experience in food processing, manufacturing, or similar environment.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, electrical controls, and plant utilities (steam, refrigeration, compressed air, water treatment).
- Experience with preventive/predictive maintenance and reliability practices.
- Working knowledge of food safety standards (HACCP, GMP, SQF, etc.).
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
- Ability to work in a food processing environment with variable temperatures, noise, and humidity.
- Ability to stand, walk, climb ladders, and lift up to 50 lbs. as required.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and on-call support.
