Payroll and Commissions Specialist

E.A. Buck Financial Services is a fast-growing financial services firm with dual headquarters in Denver and Honolulu. We are seeking a Payroll and Commissions Specialist to join our Accounting team. This position is responsible for accurately calculating and processing commissions and variable compensation for financial advisors. The specialist will also manage complex, multi-entity payroll through ADP, maintain carrier information, support commission-related accounting activities, and serve as a liaison among insurance carriers, financial advisors, and internal stakeholders.

The ideal candidate has strong analytical skills, exceptional attention to detail, and at least three years of hands-on ADP payroll processing experience.

This position is a full-time, in-office position based out of our Denver Tech Center office.

NOTE: Only people who are currently living in Colorado will be considered for this role.

Job Responsibilities:

Commissions and Variable Compensation

• Accurately calculate and process commissions and variable compensation for financial advisors.
• Track compensation related to AUM, life insurance, annuities, and other applicable financial products.
• Analyze sales and financial data to verify the accuracy of commission calculations.
• Conduct routine commission audits and promptly research and resolve discrepancies.
• Obtain and process approved bonus sheets and commission payouts.
• Maintain accurate and current insurance carrier information.
• Serve as a liaison among insurance carriers, financial advisors, and internal stakeholders.
• Assist with commission-related activities associated with mergers and acquisitions.

Payroll Administration

• Review employee timecards for accuracy and resolve discrepancies before payroll processing.
• Generate retroactive, prorated, and other applicable pay batches
• Enter manual voluntary deductions, including 401(k) contributions and parking deductions.
• Generate monthly payments for 1099 contractors, including CEI payments.
• Preview payroll and obtain CFO approval before final processing.
• Review, approve, and submit payroll through ADP.
• Generate payroll reports and provide supporting documentation to Accounting for journal-entry preparation.
• Update the 401(k) contribution spreadsheet and upload employee contributions.
• Maintain complete and accurate payroll records in accordance with company policies and applicable regulations.

Accounting and Administrative Support

• Maintain organized documentation supporting payroll, commissions, carrier information, and compensation calculations.
• Identify opportunities to improve the accuracy and efficiency of payroll and commission processes.
• Continue developing industry and technical knowledge to become a subject-matter expert in payroll and variable compensation administration.
• Provide miscellaneous accounting assistance as required.

Job Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
• Minimum of three years of hands-on ADP payroll processing experience required.
• Experience in financial services, public accounting, or a related accounting environment preferred
• Experience calculating or administering commissions, bonuses, or variable compensation strongly preferred.
• Must have working knowledge of payroll procedures, deductions, timecard reconciliation, and 1099 contractor payments.
• Strong analytical and reconciliation skills with exceptional attention to detail.
• Ability to identify discrepancies, investigate underlying issues, and resolve errors promptly.
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
