 What You’ll Do

As a Research and Development (R & D) Scientist, you will help create new technology and fundamentally improve existing technology that will have a positive impact on the business of the company. Your focus will be in the development and improvement of commercial explosives technology including formulations, functional components used therein, processing, and related chemistry, and novel new products and/or processes. Other duties include

• Conceptualize and develop new products/processes or improve existing products/processes in order to improve the quality of Dyno Nobel products in accordance with company goals.
• Design and conduct laboratory and pilot scale testing on new or improved products and processes using efficient and safe experimental techniques.
• Record, document (reports, etc.) and maintain results of all tests conducted in order to support analyses and share results with management, sales and marketing, or customers.
• Participate in management planning to evaluate, coordinate and prioritize projects; use project management software to plan, execute and track progress on projects to ensure timely and cost effective development.
• May provide assistance with patent filing to ensure accurate and timely filing.
• Be capable of running and/or analyzing data from analytical methods, relevant instruments, physical analysis, etc. that support technology development within the company.
• Become knowledgeable about the science of industrial explosives and specifically the technology of Dyno Nobel utilizing: literature and patents, interactions and collaborations within Dyno Nobel locally and globally, industry intelligence, site visits, training opportunities, etc.
• Comply with applicable regulatory health and safety policies and practices in order to ensure personal safety and the safety of all employees, company assets, environment and regulatory compliance to include but not limited to MSHA,EPA, DOT, ATF.
• Apply and enforce regulatory health and safety requirements and implement the DNI HSE Management System.

What We’re Looking For:

• 5 years experience in progressively increasing professional responsibility with leading edge technology to achieve results.
• 2 years laboratory experience.
• Experience with and understanding of common analytical instrumentation.
• Good laboratory, scientific and analytical skills.
• Ability to learn and adapt to proprietary software utilized with analytical instrumentation.
• Ability to use efficient techniques in development, experimentation and testing such as multivariable design of experiments and statistical data analysis to limit material and time costs
