- Job Title: Irrigation Technician
- Location: Pembroke Pines, FL
Qualifications
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Irrigation certification required, or ability to obtain certification within a designated timeframe.
- 3–5 years of irrigation maintenance and repair experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience troubleshooting and repairing irrigation systems, including wiring, controllers, valves, sprinklers, and PVC piping.
- Experience safely operating power tools and equipment such as drills, jackhammers, trenchers, and tampers.
- Experience working in landscape maintenance environments and supporting field crews.
- Valid Florida Driver License required.
- Clean driving record with the ability to meet company vehicle insurance requirements.
- Irrigation certification required or ability to obtain certification as required by the company.
- Strong knowledge of landscape and irrigation maintenance techniques, methods, and equipment.
- Complete understanding of irrigation wiring, wire troubleshooting, and fault locating.
- Knowledge of PVC pipe applications, including Class and Schedule-rated pipe.
- Ability to select appropriate sprinkler heads and nozzles based on site conditions and system compatibility.
- Basic understanding of electrical and electronic circuitry, including minor controller repairs.
- Ability to program, operate, and manually control irrigation controllers and stations.
- Knowledge of water management principles, including water budgeting, GPM, GPH, CCF, HCF, acreage calculations, and unit conversions.
- Understanding of distribution uniformity, pipe sizing, flow rates, and water velocity.
- Knowledge of hydrozoning concepts, including sun exposure, plant requirements, slopes, and soil conditions.
- Ability to identify soil types, field capacity, and basic plant stress indicators.
- Advanced understanding of sprinkler positioning, adjustments, and system optimization.
- Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact professionally with clients, the public, supervisors, and crew members.
- Proficiency in all Irrigation I-level skills, equipment operation, and technical knowledge.
- Irrigation
- Consistently shows up for work on time at the assigned location. If unable to work, notifies the Supervisor immediately.
- Shows up for work fully dressed in appropriate uniform including approved footwear.
- Unloads the vehicle after work and loads it for next day of work; maintains vehicle by keeping it clean and organized.
- Reads and understands irrigation plans.
- Creates as-built drawings, site activity maps, irrigation diagnostics, and work orders.
- Repairs pipes, installs and repairs various sprinkler system components and irrigation valves, and performs main line repairs up to and including 4" pipes.
- Positions sprinklers appropriately and correctly in relation to grade, curbs, walls, and windows.
- Disassembles, trouble shoots, and repairs solenoid operated irrigation control valves.
- Demonstrates the ability to install a new replacement valve.
- Demonstrates ability to make proper flow control adjustments.Turns controllers on and off and manually operates a single station or program from the controller
- Checks irrigation programs on the controller and can operate a valve electronically by remote and programs irrigation controllers.
- Performs work and uses tools and equipment (drills, jackhammers, trenchers, tampers) in a proper and safe manner.
- Ability to complete field paperwork.
- Accurately fills out and signs the timecards with hours worked and work orders for each site/project for each day worked.
- Makes a parts list for materials needed.
- Communication
- Reports any injury or illness to the Supervisor immediately.
- Inspects equipment before use to ensure proper and safe operation and reports problems to the Supervisor immediately.
- Reports unsafe work conditions or practices to the Supervisor immediately.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Duties are performed outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. of weight frequently throughout the day.
- Ability to repeatedly bend, stoop, lift, push and pull materials and equipment to complete job tasks.
- Ability to work in various positions including, but not limited to, standing, walking, stooping, bending, sitting, kneeling and squatting for extending periods.
