What You’ll Do
- Steer large, complex underground utility projects from start to finish, ensuring work is delivered safely, on time, and within budget.
- Lead and coordinate project teams by assigning tasks, monitoring progress, and maintaining accurate project status documentation.
- Build and maintain a coordinated yard schedule so crews, equipment, and materials are used efficiently across multiple jobs.
- Partner on bids and estimates by providing project insight that supports smart growth and profitable work mix.
- Oversee billing and job close-out processes, reviewing costs, resolving coding issues, and ensuring contract requirements are fully met.
- Review, validate, and process change orders and related timesheets so project scope changes are captured and billed correctly.
- Coordinate with subcontractors, vendors, and owner-operators to ensure agreements align with company standards and project needs.
- Prepare timely, accurate month-end revenue projections in collaboration with your project teams and Division Manager.
- Participate in staffing efforts by helping select qualified field personnel and supporting a strong onboarding experience.
- Nurture long-term customer relationships by responding quickly to requests, resolving issues, and proactively communicating project status.
- Champion the company’s safety program by holding foremen, crews, and subcontractors accountable for safe work practices on every job.
- Partner with senior management on personnel topics including leaves, discipline, and policy adherence.
- Attend internal and client meetings, and collaborate with other managers to share labor and equipment resources across the division.
- Maintain regular job site presence, working closely with Superintendents and Foremen to stay current on field conditions and work progress.
To Be Successful in This Role, You Bring:
- 5 years of underground utility construction experience managing projects involving water, power, gas, telecom, sewer, or storm systems.
- Bachelor of Science in Construction Management or related field preferred, or equivalent industry experience.
- Strong working knowledge of construction safety, health, environmental regulations, and applicable industry orders.
- Valid California driver’s license in good standing and the ability to operate a company vehicle.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to quickly learn company-specific systems and tools.
- Confident interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with customers, internal teams, and external agencies.
- Demonstrated leadership skills, including mentoring, coaching, and guiding field teams toward shared goals.
- Solid math and estimating skills, including calculating footage and material quantities for underground work.
- Strong planning and organizational habits, with the capacity to manage priorities and multiple projects simultaneously.
- A systematic, solutions-focused approach to problem-solving, especially when navigating changing conditions in the field.
