What are the responsibilities and job description for the Special Education Instructional Aide position at Dynamic Hope Schools?
SUMMARY OF POSITION: Dynamic Hope Schools is a nonpublic school for students 6-22 yrs old with special needs/disabilities and may have challenging behaviors. The duties of this position include supervising students in the classroom, assisting with instruction needs, and supervising assigned students during the school day. Eligibility for health benefits (medical, dental, vision, 401 k). This is a rewarding experience assisting students with social skills, providing classroom instruction through the supervision of a teacher, and providing mentorship and positive reinforcement to students.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience working with special needs students in a classroom setting assisting with school-based instruction and behavioral management. High school education or equivalent required.
WORK HOURS: Must be available between the hours of 7am-3pm. Classroom hours may vary based on campus instructional hours. Transportation assignment hours may vary and are based on route(s) assigned. Generally 7-8 hours per day, Monday through Friday.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The essential duties of the position include but are not limited to:
- Assist teaching staff in the instruction, direct supervision and behavioral management (in classroom and other areas as required) of an individual student; or at times a small group of students.
- Implement lesson plans as designed by teacher; support in the delivery of instruction for assigned student or students.
- Communicate measurable learning objectives and guide assigned student toward mastery of goals.
- Utilize instructional techniques and appropriate instructional material as determined by classroom teacher.
- Assist in tracking and the completion of course work.
- Maintain student supervision at all times including transition, P.E, and transportation periods.
- Understand the goals and objectives outlined in the assigned student’s Individual Education Plan (IEP) and if they have one, their Behavior Support Plan (BSP). Review these plans with the teacher.
- Systematically record and graph data specific to assigned student regarding overall instructional progress, achievement of IEP goals, behavioral incidents, baseline behavior and other information as required. The behavioral team will provide instructions and guidelines.
- Follow all policies for classroom procedures.
- Transportation monitor - Provide support of the Transportation team in aiding and monitoring of students while on route to and from the school.
- Complete One-to-One Aide log on a daily and weekly basis, accurately and meeting deadlines.
- Complete incident reports within specified time requirements, as needed.
- Based on student assignment, may attend to hygiene needs including toileting and dressing, as required by specific student, (changing of diapers).
- Attend trainings as required by Dynamic Hope Schools.
- Adhere to policies and procedures found in the Dynamic Hope Schools Employee Handbook.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS: Maintain a positive and professional demeanor while working with a diverse and challenging student population. Communicate in a professional manner with students, parents and coworkers. Provide positive reinforcement to students utilizing various incentives and rewards, both tangible and social. Demonstrated understanding of diagnosis of assigned student and any challenges pertaining thereto. Foster student motivation through enthusiasm and encouragement; model behaviors that reflect and reinforce a positive attitude. Flexibility in daily job assignments.
