Maintenance Technician I – Refrigeration & HVAC
Position Summary
Under direct supervision, the Maintenance Technician I is responsible for performing routine maintenance, repairs, and preventive maintenance on refrigeration, HVAC, and facility equipment. This role supports senior maintenance personnel in ensuring all equipment and facility systems operate safely, efficiently, and reliably to maintain continuous operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor boiler systems, including starting and stopping boilers, hot water pumps, and condensate return pumps.
- Perform boiler water chemistry testing and maintain accurate operational records.
- Conduct routine boiler inspections and equipment rounds.
- Operate and monitor air compressors and dryers, including tracking air pressures and temperatures.
- Start and stop glycol pumps and measure glycol concentrations as required.
- Maintain a basic understanding of water systems and chemistry management to support safe and reliable facility operations.
- Assist with mechanical troubleshooting and maintenance activities.
- Interpret and apply facility process documentation, including Block Flow Diagrams (BFDs), Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
- Perform basic HVAC maintenance, including system startup and shutdown, filter replacements, coil cleaning, and airflow monitoring.
- Conduct daily equipment rounds to ensure safe and efficient operation of facility systems.
- Accurately record equipment readings and report operational concerns.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Adhere to company policies, safety standards, code of ethics, mission, and values, and promote the same standards among team members when applicable.
Preferred Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma or GED required.
Experience
- 0–2 years of related maintenance, HVAC, refrigeration, or facility operations experience.
Certifications
- NATE Ready to Work Certification (required).
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Basic knowledge of mechanical systems, HVAC equipment, and facility operations.
- Ability to safely operate and monitor facility equipment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to workplace safety.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to follow established procedures and work under direct supervision.
