Machinist Job Description

A machinist is a skilled worker who uses machine tools to create or modify parts. Machinists typically work in manufacturing or repair shops and use a variety of hand and power tools to make precision metal parts. They must be able to read blueprints or engineering drawings and follow instructions from supervisors. In some cases, machinists may also design parts or develop prototypes. This position would begin training at a part time rate. The plan would be to eventually have this role be full time.

Machinist Job Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain a variety of computer numerically controlled (CNC) machines.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and other technical data to determine methods, sequences, and operating parameters for producing precision metal parts on CNC machines.
  • Plan the sequence of necessary operations to fabricate each product in accordance with specifications, using knowledge of shop mathematics and layout techniques.
  • Calculate dimensions or tolerances using measuring instruments such as micrometers or calipers.
  • Select the appropriate tools, attachments, materials, or work aids according to the requirements of the machining process.

Machinist Job Skills & Qualifications Needed

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of a machinist apprenticeship program
  • 2-5 years of experience working as a machinist
  • Proficiency in blueprint reading and use of precision measuring instruments
  • Ability to operate computer numerically controlled (CNC) machine tools

Include shift schedule

Pay: $20.00 - $23.00 per hour

Work Location: In person

Salary : $20 - $23
