Job Description

Dylan Jude Harrell Community Center


Basics

  • Supervisor: Senior Director of Programming
  • Monday – Friday, School Year Only
  • 2:30 - 6:00 pm (Wednesday 1:00-6:00 pm) *some flexibility depending on programs
  • $17.50-19.50/hr, DOE

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must pass a criminal background check 
  • 16 years of age (for Elementary Site), 19 years of age (for Middle/High Site)
  • Experience working with young people 


Responsibilities


  1. Mentor Young People: Serve as a mentor to youth participants, developing positive relationships that help them learn, grow, and explore. Provide positive reinforcement and redirection when necessary. Work with participants in small and large groups to develop a sense of community. Teach social and emotional skills to participants and demonstrate high emotional intelligence. Supervise children at all times to ensure their safety. Provide expectations of students' behavior that promote a positive and safe environment for all participants. 


  1. Program Execution: Execute programs, curricula, and activities for youth. Supervise youth in participation in their activities. Participate along with youth participants in exploring and learning. Support academic growth and social/emotional learning through hands-on support of programs. Ensure program supplies are well maintained and that spaces are clean at the end of each programming day. Organize and lead various group games and activities to encourage community and inclusion. Report any behavioral or physical incidents to the Supervisor on duty.


  1. Check-in/out: Ensure that youth are properly checked in and out of the program daily and are utilizing their approved transportation method.


  1. Program Improvement: Be familiar with continuous improvement, including the SEL YPQA scale and program goals. 


  1. Be an Advocate for Youth Programs: Help to spread awareness of programs being offered and be an advocate for youth programs in the community.


  1. Professional Development: Participate in professional development and collaboration to ensure growth and quality programs that meet goals. 


Preferred Qualifications

  • 1-2 years of experience leading youth
  • High School Diploma
  • Positive and professional demeanor
  • Ability to take and give feedback


Working Conditions

  • Indoor and outdoor environments supervising youth
  • Must be able to physically move around the space to supervise and provide safety to youth
  • May require lifting of items up to 50 lbs
  • Custodial duties as assigned
