Role Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced renewable energy portfolio leader to oversee a portfolio of utility-scale investments. The Director, Portfolio Management will be responsible for driving portfolio performance through value optimization, risk management, and ongoing financial and operational oversight.


The role includes full financial responsibility for assigned portfolios, including cash flow forecasting, performance monitoring, and regular reporting to senior leadership and external investors. The Director will work closely with internal teams across Investments, Legal, Accounting, and Treasury, and maintain strong relationships with sponsors, operators, and capital partners.


This position requires a strategic, detail-oriented professional with deep experience managing complex renewable energy portfolios and the ability to lead across multiple stakeholders.


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead portfolio management teams responsible for optimizing financial performance across renewable energy investments
  • Maintain deep expertise in portfolio assets, investment structures, governance rights, contractual obligations, and financial models
  • Own portfolio-level restructurings, amendments, workouts, and exits, including value assessment, risk evaluation, counterparty negotiations, and internal coordination
  • Hold financial accountability for assigned portfolios, including cash flow forecasting, valuation analysis, and performance reporting
  • Serve as primary relationship lead with external stakeholders, including sponsors, operators, lenders, and equity partners
  • Support new investment diligence by reviewing commercial terms, advising on assumptions, assessing market and regulatory risks, and contributing to negotiations
  • Apply portfolio insights to strengthen underwriting standards and inform future investment decisions
  • Monitor operating and financial performance, conduct variance analysis, and develop early-warning performance indicators
  • Oversee portfolio reporting, dashboards, and data integrity across systems
  • Ensure compliance with contractual, insurance, regulatory, and investor requirements
  • Partner cross-functionally and with IT to support transaction onboarding, system enhancements, and operational best practices
  • Represent the firm on joint venture management and operating committees and support executive and Board-level reporting


Qualifications

  • A decade or more of progressive professional experience within North American renewable energy or sustainable infrastructure, including significant time in investment, financing, asset, or portfolio leadership roles
  • Undergraduate degree in a business or technical field, with advanced degrees or professional credentials such as an MBA or CFA viewed favorably
  • Proven experience leading teams and managing complex workloads in dynamic, cross-functional environments with shifting priorities
  • Background in direct ownership, investment, or financing of renewable and energy-related assets, including structures such as project finance, tax equity, and debt and equity investments
  • Demonstrated ability to guide restructurings, workouts, or underperforming investments through negotiation and resolution
  • Strong investment judgment developed through underwriting and evaluating sustainable infrastructure opportunities, ideally with exposure to formal investment approval processes
  • Deep familiarity with commercial agreements, asset operations, energy markets, and regulatory frameworks across utility-scale and distributed renewable energy projects
  • Advanced financial modeling and analytical capabilities, including building, reviewing, and interpreting complex investment models
  • Experience using modern reporting, analytics, and visualization platforms to support portfolio monitoring and decision-making
  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and presentation skills with the ability to influence diverse stakeholders
  • Highly organized, self-directed, and dependable leader who values collaboration, inclusion, mentorship, and team success in fast-paced, entrepreneurial settings
