Quality Control (QC) Technician – Stone Quarry
Job Summary
The Quality Control (QC) Technician is responsible for monitoring, testing, and verifying the quality of quarried stone and aggregate products to ensure compliance with company specifications, customer requirements, and applicable industry standards. This role plays a critical part in maintaining product consistency, minimizing waste, and supporting safe, efficient quarry operations.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Testing & Inspection
- Perform routine sampling and testing of stone, aggregate, and manufactured products
- Conduct gradation, moisture, specific gravity, abrasion, and other required tests
- Inspect material at various stages of production (extraction, crushing, screening, stockpiling)
- Verify finished products meet customer, DOT, ASTM, or internal specifications
Documentation & Reporting
- Accurately record test results, inspections, and production data
- Maintain QC logs, test reports, and certification paperwork
- Communicate non‑conforming material issues to quarry management and production staff
- Assist with customer documentation and quality certifications
Process Monitoring & Improvement
- Monitor plant operations for quality‑related issues
- Work with supervisors and plant operators to correct production problems
- Identify trends, inconsistencies, or potential quality risks
- Support continuous improvement initiatives
Compliance & Safety
- Follow all company safety policies and MSHA regulations
- Ensure testing procedures comply with industry standards
- Maintain clean, organized lab and testing areas
- Participate in safety meetings and inspections
Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or GED
- Basic math and mechanical aptitude
- Ability to perform hands‑on testing in outdoor industrial environments
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and communicate effectively
Preferred
- Experience in aggregate, quarry, mining, concrete, or asphalt QC
- Knowledge of ASTM, AASHTO, or DOT testing procedures
- State or DOT certifications (or ability to obtain)
- Familiarity with lab equipment such as sieves, scales, ovens, and crushers
Physical & Work Requirements
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Standing, walking, climbing, and bending regularly
- Exposure to dust, noise, and heavy equipment
- Willingness to work early mornings, overtime, or weekends as needed
