Dutchland Dairy, in Rolfe, IA is in the process of expanding. We are currently milking 2000 cows in a double 20 parlor. Our expansion will include a 106-stall rotary parlor and a new 2400 head free stall barn. An additional 3600 head of cow space could be added in the future.
Our initial phase will be to milk 4000 cows.
Dutchland Dairy is looking for an operations manager position
Dave is a Veterinarian and is in charge of the cow management, Dan handles all the other duties, some responsibilities are shared. Dan is 60, and is looking to step back a little , also will need additional help with the expansion which is starting this summer.
The responsibilities of the person hired will include:
1.) Employee management
2.) Scheduling work for the employees
3.) Over 3 areas of maintenance:
a. Shop, dairy and farm equipment (have a shop person)
b. Parlor maintenance (have a herdsmen that does maintenance) will work with dairy equipment company , to set up maintenance protocols on new rotary parlor.
c. Barn maintenance, have a good foremen, that is in charge of barn maintenance.
d. Your job will be to organize schedules with each area, and work in each area when needed with the above people.
4.) Dan is in charge of 2400acres of corn silage / haylage. You will help with this
a. Help in spring and fall where needed on cropping
b. Help with haylage and corn silage where needed
5.) Help with cows, if needed. This will be a small % of time.
6.) Scheduling milk loads each day
a. Doing weekly milk load schedule
b. Adjusting where loads go on a daily basis
7.) In charge of feeding and feeders
a. Work with the farm’s nutritionist
b. Adjust forage moistures weekly
c. Work with feeders
d. Order feed
8.) Work with venders
9.) Work with financials
a. Look over bills
b. Work with accountants to get accrual financials done
10.) Work where needed.
Pay:
This will depend on experience
$70,000 to $110,000/year

At some point in time in future there is potential for possible ownership opportunities
- Demonstrated supervising or leadership experience in agricultural or related settings is preferred
- Basic mechanical knowledge with the ability to operate farm machinery and perform repairs
- Familiarity with animal husbandry practices and animal handling techniques
- Strong understanding of basic math for measurements, feed calculations, or inventory tracking
- Willingness to perform physically demanding tasks involving heavy lifting and outdoor work in varying weather conditions
- Excellent communication skills with an eagerness to learn about agriculture management
Pay: $70,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
