The Dutchess County Department of Mental Health is seeking a Recovery Coach to support individuals on their path to stability, independence, and long-term recovery. This role provides direct engagement, goal-setting support, and connection to critical resources — making a meaningful impact in the lives of community members seeking support. The department anticipates hiring more than one candidate through this posting.
About the Role
This is a peer-based, non-clinical position. Recovery Coaches use their experience and knowledge of recovery to help individuals build support systems, overcome barriers, and access services. You will:
- Support clients through recovery planning and problem-solving
- Help individuals navigate systems such as treatment, benefits, housing, or community resources
- Provide mentorship, encouragement, and accountability
- Assist individuals returning from treatment or the criminal justice system
- Attend court or system-related meetings as needed
- Work collaboratively as part of a professional care team
This is a hands-on, relationship-centered role that may require evenings, weekends, or other non-traditional hours based on client and program needs.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must meet ONE of the following:
- Associate’s degree in a Human Services or Health Science field; OR
- High school diploma or equivalency AND two (2) years of full-time paid or volunteer experience in a substance abuse or mental health program; OR
- An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined above
A valid NYS Driver License is required at the time of application and must be maintained.
Certification Requirement (post-hire)
Within six (6) months of employment, candidates must obtain one of the following NYS OASAS-recognized certifications:
- Certified Addiction Recovery Coach (CARC)
- Certified Recovery Peer Advocate (CRPA or CRPA-P)
