Job Overview

We are seeking a compassionate, knowledgeable, and experienced Lead Medication Technician to oversee medication administration and resident care within our mental health-focused residential community. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership and communication skills, a thorough understanding of medication management and healthcare regulations, and experience working with individuals with mental health conditions, disabilities, or other complex care needs.

The Lead Medication Technician will provide day-to-day guidance to medication technicians, promote safe and accurate medication practices, and collaborate with nursing and care staff to ensure residents receive consistent, individualized, and high-quality support.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and provide guidance to medication technicians regarding the accurate preparation, administration, and documentation of medications.
  • Ensure medication administration practices comply with applicable New York State regulations, HIPAA requirements, and facility policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with nursing and care staff to support individualized care plans that address residents’ medication needs, preferences, behaviors, and overall well-being.
  • Maintain accurate and timely medical documentation using Electronic Medication Administration Record (eMAR).
  • Train, coach, and mentor medication technicians on medication procedures, safety practices, documentation requirements, and regulatory updates.
  • Monitor residents for changes in condition, medication effectiveness, and potential adverse reactions, and promptly communicate concerns to the appropriate nursing or clinical staff.
  • Oversee medication inventory, including ordering, storage, reconciliation, and disposal in accordance with established safety and regulatory standards.
  • Promote a safe and supportive environment for residents with mental health conditions, behavioral challenges, and/or disabilities.
  • Ensure staff consistently follow infection-control procedures, safe patient-handling techniques, and appropriate personal-care practices.
  • Support residents with activities of daily living and mobility needs while maintaining dignity, safety, and respect.
  • Communicate effectively with residents, families, nursing staff, providers, and other members of the care team.
  • Assist with maintaining a structured environment that promotes consistency, stability, and resident-centered care.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Proven experience in assisted living, residential care, behavioral health, developmental disability services, nursing homes, hospitals, home care, or other healthcare settings serving mental health and/or disabled populations.
  • Experience supporting individuals with mental health conditions, behavioral needs, cognitive impairments, or developmental disabilities strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of medication administration, medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and basic healthcare practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee medication administration processes in accordance with applicable New York State regulations and professional standards.
  • Familiarity with behavioral health services, psychiatric medications, dementia-related care, hospice services, tube feeding, and personal-care assistance is preferred.
  • Strong communication, organization, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to recognize changes in residents’ physical, emotional, and behavioral status and communicate concerns appropriately.
  • Ability to provide compassionate, trauma-informed, and person-centered support to residents with diverse mental health and behavioral needs.
