What are the responsibilities and job description for the Systems Integration & AI Automation Engineer position at Durlston Partners?
About the Role
We are seeking a Systems Integration & AI Automation Engineer to help improve how the global business operates across systems, workflows, and teams. This person will design and implement integrations, automate high-value business processes, and deploy practical AI solutions that improve efficiency, decision-making, and day-to-day execution.
This is not a role for someone who has only built products in isolation. We are looking for someone who has contributed meaningfully to business outcomes - someone who has worked directly with stakeholders, improved operating processes, reduced friction across systems, and delivered measurable impact to the organization.
Work/Life:
2 days onsite in the Westport, CT or NYC areas (flexibility for 5 days on-site 2-3x per year)
What You’ll Do
- Design, build, and optimize integrations across enterprise platforms, with particular focus on Microsoft 365, Azure, Salesforce, and related SaaS tools.
- Identify workflow bottlenecks, manual processes, and system gaps, then implement automation solutions to improve efficiency and reliability.
- Partner with business stakeholders across functions such as Finance, HR, Operations, and leadership to translate business needs into scalable technical solutions.
- Help unify workflows, improve interoperability, and reduce data silos across systems.
- Evaluate and deploy automation tools such as Power Automate, Zapier, and other fit-for-purpose platforms.
- Build dashboards and reporting mechanisms to measure automation performance, adoption, and operational impact.
- Design and deploy AI-enabled solutions, including Copilot extensions, GPT-based workflows, and intelligent agents that enhance internal productivity.
- Ensure solutions are implemented responsibly, with appropriate governance, privacy, and security considerations.
- Collaborate across teams and time zones to support a globally connected environment.
What We’re Looking For
- 5 years of relevant experience required, with 6–7 years preferred, in systems integration, automation engineering, business systems, solutions engineering, or applied AI/automation roles.
- Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft 365, Azure, and Power Platform.
- Experience integrating business systems and improving workflows across enterprise environments.
- Familiarity with AI tools such as Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, or similar enterprise AI platforms.
- Demonstrated ability to work directly with business stakeholders and deliver solutions tied to real operational improvement.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to balance technical execution with business context.
- Comfortable working in fast-moving environments with multiple priorities and cross-functional collaboration.
- Strong judgment, ownership, and follow-through.
Ideal Background
We would be especially interested in candidates who have:
- Delivered integrations and automation that improved business processes, not just shipped technical features.
- Worked in environments where discretion, stakeholder management, and execution quality matter.
- Built solutions that connected systems, improved reporting, reduced manual effort, or increased organizational productivity.
- Experience operating in a Microsoft-centric ecosystem.
- Exposure to governance, compliance, access controls, and responsible AI practices.
Nice to Have
- Microsoft certifications such as Power Platform Fundamentals or Azure Fundamentals
- Experience with low-code/no-code automation platforms
- Experience supporting global or multi-office organizations
