Job Summary:

The Pre-K Teacher Quality Specialist will work with the Program and Evaluation team focused primarily on the NC Pre-K and Durham Pre-K programs that provide high-quality education to eligible 4-year-olds in Durham County. The Pre-K Teacher Quality Specialist will be responsible for observing and providing feedback to the teaching staff for Durham’s NC Pre-K program.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Develop a plan for goal setting, professional development, and resources available for participating NC Pre-K programs.
  • Build relationships with teachers and directors through effective communication, cultural responsiveness, and knowledge of adult learning principles.
  • Serve as the lead administrator for the approved on-going assessment platform
  • Serve as the lead for the educator’s lending library
  • Conduct site visits, classroom observations while applying models of problem-solving, conflict resolution, consultation, mentoring and coaching to lead those receiving technical Assistance (TA) to create positive change.
  • Work collaboratively with Durham Pre-K team and other Pre-K partners to plan professional development calendar.
  • Attend relevant workshops and professional development opportunities to improve professional practice.
  • Participate in all aspects of the child application process
  • Participate in the recruitment activities for prospective children and families
  • Participate in all aspects of transition into Pre-K and out of Pre-K
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

  • Ability to provide for a trans-disciplinary approach to presenting information and conducting interventions.
  • Ability to work some evenings and/or weekends as necessary.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and regular access to an insured, registered vehicle.

Education and Experience:

  • Associate’s degree and three years’ relevant experience teaching or coaching.
  • Working knowledge of current principles in culturally responsive family engagement; current local, state, and national laws, public policies, legislative issues, and political process important to the concerns of parenting involvement in North Carolina.
  • Extensive knowledge of early childhood education and child development.
  • Experience teaching adults and how to aid in supporting adult growth.
  • Knowledge of NC Pre-K program, the Creative Curriculum, and SmartTeach (formally Teaching Strategies Gold).

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $45,000.00 - $50,000.00 per year
